The SC Magdeburg stumbled in the 17th season game of the handball Bundesliga for the first time.
The so far flawless front runner lost to the runner-up SG Flensburg-Handewitt 27:30 (11:13) and goes into the European Championship break with 32: 2 points.
Even if the competition draws hope again: The prospects for the first championship since 2001 are still good for the SCM.
Before the evening game between THW Kiel and TBV Lemgo Lippe, SCM was six points ahead of the record champions.
Flensburg (27: 7) shortened the gap to five points by winning at home in front of 3,150 spectators.
After the EM on February 9th, Magdeburg will continue with a home game against GWD Minden.
In a battle-focused game, Flensburg's Hampus Wanne and Magdeburg's Daniel Pettersson were the best throwers with seven goals each.
Benjamin Buric convinced in the goal of the hosts, who had clearly lost the first leg in October.
