The Dorfener ice hackers just can't win anymore.
Königsbrunn / Dorfen - In the catch-up game on Sunday evening at EHC Königsbrunn, the ice pirates of ESC Dorfen had to admit defeat 3: 5 (2: 2, 1: 1, 0: 2) despite great commitment - and the slump came again in the final third.
A hot fight was to be expected in the Hydrotech Arena right next to the Königstherme, especially since four days before both the hosts in their own house at the 1: 8 against Buchloe and the ESC at the 2: 8 defeat in Waldkraiburg had been badly shaken. However, this defeat was more serious for the EHC Königsbrunn, because it had lost the connection to the top eight with 23 points for the moment. In the minds of the hosts, however, the somewhat unfortunate 3: 4 defeat after a penalty at the Dorfen first leg was still buzzing.
When the game was even, Benedikt Dietrich had to go to the penalty box, which the penguins used to make it 1-0 through Luca Szegedin (6th). The ice pirates went well into the fore-checking, and Dietrich outsmarted goalie Dominic Guran with a full shot. As a result, ESC center forward Christoph Obermaier was injured on the shoulder during a borderline check and had to be brought to the clinic for an examination. Dorfen could not be disconcerted, and Josef Folger cleverly asserted himself and punched for 2: 1 (18th). The joy of the ice pirates only lasted for a short time, because the Swabians answered by return of post from the face-off with the 2: 2 (18th) by Petzold.
When the referees overlooked a clear icing, Tim Bullnheimer brought the home side 3-2 (26th) for the first time.
After a skilful pass from the depths, Urban Sodja netted on the counterattack to equalize 3: 3 (30th). Then there was a five-minute penalty (33rd) for defender Alexander Strehler, who knocked down followers on the gang.
However, Dorfen couldn't capitalize on the five-minute outnumbered game and actually only managed a moderate powerplay.
Likewise, with short power play situations for both teams at the beginning of the third, neither team could achieve anything countable.
The Königsbrunner then showed themselves better in the counterattack, and the German-Czech Bitomsky overcame ESC goalie Andreas Marek with an untenable shot to 4: 3 (49th).
Now the hosts, who, in contrast to the Eispiraten - who were again missing four leading players, were able to play with three complete, well-rehearsed rows and still had a fourth in reserve - put themselves into the scene with more force.
Dorfen tried in the last two minutes with six field players and received the 3: 5 (59th) from the second best EHC scorer Tim Bullnheimer.
