Alpine skiing: Mikaela Shiffrin tested positive for Covid and package for the Linz World Cup events

The American skier, star of the World Cup circuit, has withdrawn from the two races scheduled for Linz, Austria, on Tuesday and Wednesday.


The Covid-19 never ceases to wreak havoc in the ranks of athletes.

The American Mikaela Shiffrin, leading the Women's Alpine Skiing World Cup, announced on her social networks on Monday that she had tested positive for Covid-19, and that she would therefore miss the races in Linz (Austria ), Tuesday and Wednesday.

“I'm fine but unfortunately I tested positive for Covid.

I respect the protocol and I isolated myself, ”writes the American star with 72 World Cup victories.

Earlier in the morning, Russian tennis player Andrey Rublev, 5th in the ATP rankings, announced that he was going into solitary confinement.

"I am currently in Barcelona and I unfortunately tested positive for Covid-19," the 24-year-old wrote on Twitter.

I placed myself in isolation and I respect all the protocols under the supervision of the doctors.

I am fully vaccinated and preparing for the ATP Cup tournaments (January 1-9).

In recent hours, the Canadian Denis Shapovalov, the Spaniard Rafael Nadal, the Swiss Belinda Bencic, the Tunisian Ons Jabeur and the Briton Emma Raducanu, had also tested positive for Covid.
