Hapoel Jerusalem Not Alone: The Great Leaks in Israeli Sports Israel today

2021-12-27T09:27:37.173Z

The big farce in the Jerusalem derby has joined no less embarrassing past cases • From the lost fax of Maccabi Haifa, to the stolen shoes of Sanford, to the surprising slowdown of Chamtai-Salpeter • The stories of the most angular affair in Israeli sports

Hapoel Jerusalem was happy to avoid entering the next unflattering list, but the farce in the derby against Betar caused it to enter there with all its might. Get the most embarrassing moments in Israeli sports for its generations and yes, we will also reach the red-blacks.

Donland Sanford's shoes

Just before the qualifiers for the 400 meters at the 2012 London Olympics, the Israeli sprinter found himself in a situation that every athlete severely fears.

Sanford discovered that his shoes had been stolen from the locker room, leaving the Israeli delegation in shock.

Eventually a Canadian sprinter loaned him shoes that did not match his size and Sanford, although setting an Israeli record, missed the promotion to the Olympic semi-finals.

Without the case, would we have received Israeli history on the running track?

The binoculars of Vered Borchowski

The Olympic swimmer also found herself in a complex situation and perhaps even more so than the others.

During the 2004 Athens Olympics, just before the jump to the 200 individual medley, Borochovsky's binocular strap was torn.

She had to jump into the pool without binoculars at all and finished in 24th place overall, which was not enough for the semifinals.

"Everyone is laughing at me," the swimmer said after that unfortunate incident and the hearts of the country's sports fans went out to her.

Luna Chamtai-Salpter's surprising slowdown

The date of August 12, 2018, the mighty Israeli lecturer will probably remember forever, and not for good.

In second place in the 5,000-meter dash, Chamtai-Salpter heard the bell ring and celebrated the thought of winning the silver medal.

But that same ring of course heralded the entry into the final lap of the race and the runner - who had already slowed down almost completely - saw her rivals overtake her.

Chamtai-Salpter recovered and finished in fourth place with a new Israeli record, but it dwarfed that leap.

The lost fax of Maccabi Haifa

In August 2011, Haifa received a message from the UEFA that it had suffered a technical loss in the Champions League qualifiers against Hakka and will not play in the next stage against Liverpool. The reason for this lies in the previous season. Should want a restraining order.

In retrospect, it turned out that Haifa did not read the fax in which UEFA announced Badir's sentence correctly.

Yoav Ziv's flying shoe

There is no doubt that this is a picture (or video) that will be remembered forever in the consciousness of Israeli football.

During Maccabi Tel Aviv's game against Stoke City in October 2018 in the Europa League (it ended in a 3-0 loss to the English), former Yellows defender Yoav Ziv accidentally kicked a shoe on the line of the game and was sent off.

"It was bad luck, I apologized," Ziv said.

And that moment earned him a star on social media.

Not necessarily for the right reason.

The line flags in Bloomfield

An incident that happened very recently and did not add a good name to Israeli football at all.

The game between Hapoel Tel Aviv and Hapoel Jerusalem at Bloomfield Stadium opened very late, because the different flags of the lines were not on the field.

The delayed game was played with alternate flags wrapped around broomsticks and the refereeing team was suspended for five games.

The participation of the six foreigners of Hapoel Jerusalem

And of course the freshest story of all.

In the 77th minute of the Jerusalem derby between Betar and Hapoel on December 26, 2001, the Reds-Blacks coach took out Guy Hadida and replaced him with Caltus Novmail. The problem? In a dramatic 1: 1 draw, which is not expected to be considered due to a technical loss penalty that Hapoel will receive.
