Maccabi Ashdod girls defeated Hapoel Rishon Lezion 76:84 at home tonight (Tuesday) in a game that locked the 10th round of the Athena Wiener League for women.
It was Rishon LeZion's second loss of the season that it lost first place in the league in which it was ranked on the eve of the round.
The first half of the game ended in a 45:45 tie and was characterized by a quality offensive play by both teams.
The game highlighted two players: Victoria Vivians from Ashdod with 24 points and Jenny Sims from Rishon Lezion with 29 points, 15 of them in the first quarter.
Sims was assisted by Dakia Cohen with 12 points until the break while Vivians was assisted by Alison Hightower who scored 8 points until the break.
May Dayan from Ashdod opened the second half with an exceptional personal performance and within five minutes of the opening of the third quarter led Ashdod to a 50:61 advantage with 14 personal points and a perfect shooting percentage of 5 out of 5 in 3-point shots.
Rishon LeZion in those minutes was confused and did not find the way to produce points. Towards the end of the third quarter, Ashdod's advantage decreased slightly 60:66.
In the second half, Ashdod (in its ranks, Kelsey Boone played for the first time tonight) maintained its advantage, even though two minutes before the end of the game it was reduced to 76:78.
Alison Hightower of Ashdod with 4 consecutive points in eight seconds led her team to an impressive victory.
