DSV-Adler Karl Geiger could lay the foundation stone for a victory in the Four Hills Tournament in his hometown of Oberstdorf.

He gets support from his family.

Oberstdorf - On Wednesday, December 29th, the eyes of winter sports fans will be on the Four Hills Tournament.

Despite the many big names, the focus at the first stop of the four-part sporting event in Oberstdorf is on a local hero.

Ski jumper Karl Geiger was born in the town of 10,000 inhabitants in Ostallgäu and won four medals at the Nordic World Ski Championships at the beginning of the year.

Now it should also work with a victory in the Four Hills Tournament, Geiger can always count on the support of his family.

The 28-year-old was on the verge of the big coup on the tour last year, and even won his home game in Oberstdorf.

In the end, however, Geiger had to admit defeat to Kamil Stoch from Poland, who won the last two competitions.

Shortly afterwards, the DSV-Adler attacked the Nordic World Ski Championships in February and March.

In the team as well as in the mixed team, he won the gold medal in his home town, on the normal hill he flew to silver, on the large hill there was bronze in the end.

The latest memories of his achievements in Oberstdorf could give him courage before the first tour jumping event.

Karl Geiger: Wedding with his Franziska in September 2020, shortly afterwards the offspring were born

Another supporting factor is his family; Geiger lives with his wife and young daughter in an apartment in his parents' house in Oberstdorf. At the end of September last year, he married his long-time girlfriend Franziska, and they celebrated in traditional costume. The wedding photo of the athlete and his wife was even taken in the local cross-country stadium in Ried. Their daughter Luisa was born just three months after the marriage, and Geiger was even sent home from the World Cup in Finland to look after his wife for the birth. Two vacation photos from the summer show the happiness of the family:

A few days before he became a father, Geiger was crowned ski flying world champion in Planica, Slovenia, and he put his joy over the eventful week into words on Instagram.

“That was probably that perfect week that people are always talking about!

Welcome, little Luisa.

Thanks for waiting for me and your mom!

I am incredibly proud of you, ”wrote the down-to-earth Allgäu man.

But it's not just his wife and daughter who stand behind Geiger. His parents Roman and Monika Geiger are always there and cheer for their offspring's competitions. He also has two sisters, a younger one named Lucia and the older Verena. Both are big fans of their brother, Lucia even handed him his trophy for second place in the jumping in Oberstdorf at the end of 2019.

Geiger starts as the overall leader in the ski jumping World Cup in the upcoming Four Hills Tournament, which will take him to Oberstdorf, Garmisch, Innsbruck and Bischofshofen.

Should the athlete actually emerge victorious at the major event, he would be the first German after Sven Hannawald to take the title in the 2001/2002 season.

A victory on your own doorstep could release strength for the next three competitions.
