But heavy has fallen on American sports in general and football in particular upon learning of the death of NFL legend John Madden at the age of 85. Many have mourned him and are trying to digest the passing of one of the great influencers on the popular industry.
Madden never played professional football, but became the successful coach of the Auckland Raiders, which he led in 1977 to winning the NFL Championship.
Despite this, he achieved his fame in football when he became the most famous commentator in the history of the industry, a career that began in 1979 and ended only after 30 years.
Madden is a member of the NFL Hall of Fame, and his name is well known to sports gamers as well, as his name lives on in EA's famous video game.

"There will never be another like him," former player Peyton Manning praised him, joined by Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James who tweeted: "Comfortable on your bed in heaven, best of all, her legacy will live on."
