The world number one Novak Djokovic has canceled his participation in the ATP Cup in Sydney.

The organizers announced this.

The Serbian team will now be ranked 33rd in the world.

Dusan Lajovic cited, it said in the message.

The tournament starts on Saturday.

This also raises doubts about Djokovic's participation in the Australian Open, the first highlight of the tennis season in 2022. Although the 34-year-old is on the entry list for the Grand Slam tournament, which starts on January 17, the record winner is making his vaccination status another secret.

Only vaccinated tennis professionals are allowed to start

Only fully vaccinated players are allowed to serve at the Australian Open (January 17th to 30th).

Special exemptions are only granted for medical reasons.

The ATP Cup has been the start of the Australian tennis summer since 2020 and is therefore a preparatory tournament for the Australian Open.

In the first edition two years ago, Djokovic led Serbia to the title.
