When the Darts World Championship was broadcast from the "Ally Pally", a lot went wrong on Thursday.

The wrong images were displayed to viewers around the world.

London - what was that?

Sport1 * and DAZN * viewers must have been very confused when, during the live broadcast of the Darts World Cup *, horses suddenly flickered across the screen instead of darts.

The broadcasting stations almost made it into the new year without a breakdown, but then, of all things, the huge mishap happened during the exciting duel between the two Englishmen Luke Humphries and Chris Dobey.

There was a tough cut from a darts match to a horse race.

However, the two German broadcasters are not to blame any more than any of the other channels.

The TV picture is provided by the director on site - so the breakdown should have been seen all over the world.

"Somebody in England pressed the wrong button," said Sport1 commentator Basti Schwele, puzzled.

For several minutes he and co-commentator Robert Marijanovic had no choice but to improvise.

“Which horse did you bet on, Robby?” Asks Schwele.

“Number 13 has a good rate,” jokes Marijanovic.

"Notes can still be accepted in the commentator's box."

Darts * Pope Elmar Paulke and professional Max Hopp at DAZN were also caught off guard by the sudden change of picture.

"We have no influence on these pictures", Paulke apologizes to the audience.

"Equestrian sport is brilliant, I like it - but then I prefer small arrows."

Paulke and Hopp promptly switched to radio commentary - with the help of the live score.

"Let's do a little radio, not bad either." Both teams of commentators fought brilliantly until finally, after a few minutes, the correct signal was sent again.

In the end, Humphries won the match just 4: 3 and made it to the quarterfinals.
