Eric-Maxim Choupo Moting prepares for the Africa Cup with Cameroon.

The striker is injured and has to stop training and FC Bayern could be missing for a long time.

Munich / Yaounde - At FC Bayern *, preparations for the second half of the season will not begin until the new year, with training kicking off at Säbener Strasse on Sunday, January 2nd.

But a Bayern star had to stop training in advance, and he is not in Munich at all.

It's not a hard-working professional who works extra shifts on a well-deserved vacation.

We're talking about FCB striker Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting, who is currently in Cameroon and preparing for the Africa Cup.

FC Bayern: Choupo-Moting breaks off training - acute pain in the knee

Choupo-Moting had to stop training with the Cameroonian national team prematurely because of "acute pain in his right knee." They are now waiting for the results of an MRI examination, the Cameroon Football Association announced on Friday night on Twitter.

For Choupo-Moting, who was born in Hamburg, it would be the next blow in the neck.

The 32-year-old has been out of action due to a corona infection since the end of November, and he played his last competitive game on November 19 at 1: 2 in Augsburg.

For Bayern, striker Robert Lewandowski backed up only twelve games in the first half of the season, in which he scored eight goals - four of them in the first round of the cup in a 12-0 win against Bremer SV.

FC Bayern: Choupo-Moting for Cameroon at the Africa Cup in action

Choupo-Moting is currently in Cameroon, West Africa, to prepare for the Africa Cup with his national team.

The Africa Cup will take place from January 9th to February 6th.

The “indomitable lions”, as the team is popularly known, are among the favorites as hosts.

A few days before the start of the tournament, however, the team suffered another setback.

According to the association, four players tested positive for the corona virus.

These are the former Mainz Bundesliga professional Pierre Kunde Malong, Jean Efala Konguep, Michaël Ngadeu Ngadjui and Christian Bassosog.

The four professionals are in quarantine, the association continues.

FC Bayern: Not only Choupo-Moting could miss four games

Choupo-Moting is not the only FC Bayern professional to take part in the continental championship.

Right-back Bouna Sarr, who only made his debut for Senegal at the end of the year, will also be missing for the record champions for the time being.

How long the two Africans are not available to Bayern depends on the performance of their respective teams.

The group stage ends for the Cameroonians on January 17th, for Senegal the last group game is on the following day.

Then the knockout phase would come up, the final will take place on February 6th in Yaoundé, the capital of Cameroon.

Bayern will play against Gladbach on January 7, followed by two away games in Cologne and at Hertha BSC on January 15 and 23, before they will play against RB Leipzig on February 5.
