Bitter afternoon for Kilian Märkl during the qualification for the New Year's competition.
The 21-year-old turned 68 and was eliminated.
Garmisch-Partenkirchen - It wasn’t meant to be: For the third time, Kilian Märkl (SC Partenkirchen) started the qualification for the New Year’s competition in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, and for the third time it failed to make it into the top 50 athletes.
The Grainauer landed in 68th place and is therefore condemned to watch on the first day of the year.

"The disappointment is of course great, this is my home jump." However, the elimination after the two messed up training rounds of the 21-year-old was not entirely surprising.
"I couldn't adjust to the hill at all, it was pretty bumpy right from the start."
Now it is important for the Grainauer to regain self-confidence in the Continental Cup in the coming weeks, in which he recently achieved strong results.
“I have to tick today's jumping and go on.” The next big goal of Märkl is the Ski Flying World Cup in Oberstdorf (March 18th to 20th) - there is another national group at the start.
Overall, however, the performance of the DSV squad on New Year's Eve was impressive - nine out of 13 starters survived the qualification.
The two German model athletes Karl Geiger - third place - and Markus Eisenbichler, who won the qualification ahead of the tour leader Ryoyu Kobayashi, sent a strong signal to the competition.
