In the shadow of the subtractions and isolations, Danny Abdia found himself in a unique niche. In tonight's 93-110 victory (Thursday-Friday) over Cleveland, the Washington coach tried the Israeli forward as a full-time center-back on offense, and as a center-back on defense. For long minutes, Abdia tried to combine the two roles, leading on the one hand a ball on offense and on the other hand fulfilling a completely different function in retaining inside players and trying to assist on the rebound.
Abdia finished the game not a bad statistic: 24 minutes, 13 points (5 from 12 from the field, 1 from 5 from three, 2 from 2 from penalties) and 6 rebounds, but these are not his numbers, but the performance that was different.
"It's a good experience for him. We put the ball in his hands some of the time this season, but to do it for long minutes, it's already new for him," Washington West coach Ansald Jr. analyzed after the game.
Bradley Bill has already proven he can lead a ball, but sometimes you want him to play without the ball, so you're looking for creative solutions.

On days like theirs, on a full staff, Washington uses Abdia primarily as a defensive stopper, and on offense he plays the role of a complementary player who still doesn’t often touch the ball. The Wizards' shortcomings in the away positions amid the absence of coordinators Aron Holiday and Raul Neto, forced the team to try something different with Abdia, who may have continuity. "The next step for Danny will be to organize the attack and give the players the balls in the right places," explains Ansald Jr.. "He has not experienced this too much except for specific attacks in which he has made decisions with the ball as a secondary ball carrier. Now we are talking about it as an option for a main ball carrier."
NBC Washington was pleased with Abdia's performance, and reporter Chase Hughes noted that "when your team is missing half the rotation players including two players from the same position, it helps a lot to have a diverse player like Danny Abdia. Danny did a little bit of everything, like a Swiss Army knife, including "The coordinators are lacking players in the point guard and center positions, so why not try to give him minutes in both positions? He managed to make moves in both positions, organized the Wizards' attack well and kept good."

Hughes did note that "on offense he did not score well, and missed a series of shots that he usually scores. It was not his day on offense, but it is still difficult to complain about him in light of what the Wizards are demanding of him."
