2022-01-02T07:12:11.864Z

"Israel Today" has learned that Minister of Religions Matan Kahana has met with industry leaders, focusing on promoting synagogue leagues, establishing leagues for women and branding high school yeshivot.

The Basketball Association is working on a comprehensive program to encourage the industry and its growth among the religious sector, believing that in this sector there is potential for success due to the large number of religious basketball fans.

Last week, Minister of Religious Affairs Matan Kahana visited the union's offices, and met with Chairman Amiram Halevi, CEO Yaakov Ben-Shoshan and the professional director of the Israel national team, Pini Gershon, along with other parties, with the goal of setting goals and objectives.

Now, "Israel Today" brings you the union's full program on the subject.

First, the union believes that promoting the synagogue league, strengthening and branding it will give a significant boost to the industry in the religious sector.

Today there are 12 synagogue leagues throughout Israel, in each league there are 10-12 teams and each one has between 100 and 200 players.

The champions of the local leagues then qualify for the national league, where the national champion is decided by the Final Four method.

There is now a proposal to turn the Synagogue League into a league that will be operated within the framework of the union, with the aim of increasing the age range in it and making it more orderly and profitable.

The meeting with the minister was also attended by the director of the Synagogue League, Raz Schreiber, who presented his recommendations on the subject.

In addition, "Israel Today" has learned that the possibility of establishing organized and organized community leagues for religious women is being examined, as well as establishing community leagues for youth, including members of the religious pre-military preparatory schools.

In addition, an action plan is being formulated to promote and brand the high school yeshiva league, in order to approach the managerial and professional level of the national high school league.

Professionals believe that there are many young players who have the potential to be missed, as they are not in a sufficiently professional setting.

For example, Yuval Schneiderman, the talented player of Hapoel Jerusalem, previously won the high school yeshiva league championship and was one of the outstanding players in the league for several years, but he is one of the few to pursue a professional career.

In March 2019 we announced the formation of a team for traditionalists.

The team was indeed formed, and also began training under the guidance of Hanan Hirshovich, but due to the corona, its activity was stopped.

Now the union wants to revive the project, as part of the same broad program.

The association is ready to help train coaches and basketball instructors in the religious sector, assist with judging, regulations, supervision and managerial and organizational support.

There are plans to allocate significant amounts to increase activity, the number of groups, and expand the age range.
