It's time to forgive: Chelsea need Lukaku against Liverpool more than ever Israel today

2022-01-02T09:48:07.514Z

In recent rounds Chelsea are losing height in the championship battle, and if that's not enough - came a controversial interview of Romulo Lukaku who only added to the great pressure • The Belgian striker must rise against Liverpool, in a game that could end the Blues tonight

Joining the troubles that have plagued Thomas Tuchel and Chelsea in recent weeks - just one win in the last four rounds, injuries, Corona, a tight game board and a direct battle tonight over second place against Liverpool (without the positive Jürgen Klopp for Corona) - was joined this weekend by Romulo Lukaku.

Although the Belgian spoke to the Italian media a few weeks ago, the interview was published on Thursday and the impact was great.

Lukaku said there, among other things, that he was not satisfied with the method chosen by the coach, that he was not satisfied with the situation, and that he intended to return to Inter one day.

"I hope from the bottom of my heart that I will return there," said the 28-year-old striker, "and not at the end of my career but when I am still at my peak, and that we can win more titles together."

Following these things, the Italian media have raised the possibility that the striker will return to Inter in the current transfer window in January, but that will probably not happen.

Indeed, Lukaku is another problem that Tuchel needs to solve now.

What should worry Chelsea is that this is not the first time Lukaku has opened his mouth in this way to the media.

In 2017, when he played for Everton, he had an unforgettable interview in which he doubted the team's aspirations to win titles.

"I know there are good players the club could have added, but he decided not to add," the Belgian said at the time, adding: "You have to stop living in the past, no one remembers who scores a lot of goals, everyone remembers who wins titles."

Fans of the team and coach Ronald Koeman did not like the things of the Belgian, and it was clear that the direction is parting.

Three months later, after another interview in which he declared that "staying at Everton is not really an option", he signed for Manchester United.

There, already after a year, Lukaku was asked in an interview if he was interested in moving to Italy, and replied without hesitation: "I very much hope."

United fans did not like the answer, and former player Gary Flister said: "It is not respectable to talk about another club when you are at a particular club."

Although Lukaku stayed at Old Trafford for another season, at the end he was interviewed for an American podcast and said: "A lot of players play badly at United, but they always put the blame on me. I feel they are not defending me."

As expected, after these things, Lukaku moved to Inter.

Tuchel, who must have known the history, did not like the recent events.

"It creates a mess that we do not need now," the German said ahead of the meeting with Liverpool, insisting that the 28-year-old striker has not shown any signs of dissatisfaction in recent times.

"On the contrary, if anything. He looked great so I was surprised by what was said."

The surprise probably stems from the fact that the interview took place a few weeks ago, when things were different.

Lukaku suffered injuries and was unable to get into things, but recently returned to fitness and scored in the last two rounds.

The interview made an unnecessary noise and raised a lot of speculation about his future at the team, but it is clear that Tuchel and Chelsea are determined to prevent the snowball from rolling.

"We will sit with him and speak honestly as we always do," Tuchel clarified.

"We need to check what's going on, because there's no reason he shouldn't be happy here."
