A mountain learner looks after the next generation of German equestrians.

Berglern

- Sabine Winterling from Berglern is one of two people responsible at the federal level for popular sport among the youth of the German Equestrian Association.

Among other things, she is responsible for inter-company training and therefore has to do with young people because of her job, but not only that: She comes from working with youngsters in riding clubs.

“Then you stayed with volunteer work,” she says.

Winterling has been with the Bavarian Riding and Driving Association since 1999. “Now it's the federal level.” She shares the office with a colleague who is based in Bad Segeberg in Schleswig-Holstein. Most of the committee work is done online. "But the presence must not be missing," says the 52 year old. This applies above all to the work on site when it comes to better integrating existing clubs into the organization.

The administrative manager at Deula in Freising is herself a trainer with the “B” license and would like to see what she calls the “total package”. This includes recruiting young people for equestrian sport, further training and recruiting trainers. "Animal welfare, animal welfare, safety and accident prevention", these are her priorities. "Which riding style comes out is then again secondary," says Winterling, who is also allowed to teach western riding.

The mountain learner has big plans: "Riding as a school sport - a really big topic!" There are great opportunities here, but also funding opportunities that need to be implemented. “We have to strengthen school sport again,” she demands. The fact that young riders can also be won over to the clubs through school sport is an effect that she has in mind and evaluates positively, but does not want to push it into the foreground. At the same time, she is aware that the cavalry cannot get rid of the image of being something for the "upper ten thousand" just because of the costs. The following applies to her: “Those who deal with a horse have to take a lot. There is a lot of feeling. ”Then she came back to the subject of animal welfare:“ Horses are merciless educators. They are not a piece of sports equipment, not a tennis racket, that I can put in the corner. "

Because it is now active at the federal level, Winterling also has an overview of the overall situation.

She complains “a certain amount of club fatigue.

We have to win members again ”.

She doesn't just mean equestrian sport for a long time.

“That is a very big topic.

It’s also about insurance. ”These run through the Bavarian State Sports Association (BLSV).
