Peter Wright has triumphed at the Darts World Cup for the second time.
The 51-year-old Scot won the high-class final in London's Alexandra Palace with 7: 5 against Michael Smith from England and after 2020 again pocketed the winner's check for 500,000 pounds (around 596,000 euros).
Smith, on the other hand, has to wait for his first major title.
Wright played a strong 98.34 points on average, his double rate was 39.1 percent.
With his first match dart, "Snakebite" secured the 25 kg Sid Waddell Trophy in front of 3000 celebrating spectators.
Smith, who reached the final three years ago, will receive £ 200,000 for entering the final.
The »Bully Boy«, who was placed ninth, had eliminated defending champion Gerwyn Price, co-favorite Jonny Clayton (both from Wales) and the Englishman James Wade on the way to the final.
Wright, who secured second place in the world rankings, had moved into the final against his Scottish compatriot Gary Anderson.
The world championship was overshadowed by numerous corona cases over the Christmas period.
In addition to favorite Michael van Gerwen from the Netherlands, his compatriots Raymond van Barneveld, Danny Noppert, Vincent van der Voort and the Englishman Dave Chisnall tested positive for the corona virus.
