How is Michael Schumacher?

Many of his fans are also wondering this on the anniversary of his accident.

Here we summarize some of the statements made by his manager and his confidante.

Kerpen - There are hardly any current statements about Michael Schumacher's health.

Of course, fans and the media respect Michael Schumacher's privacy.

Nonetheless, followers understandably still wonder how their idol is doing.

The Formula 1 record world champion had an accident on December 29, 2013 while skiing in the French Alps.

In a fall, his head hit a rock and suffered severe head trauma despite wearing a helmet.

After the eighth anniversary of his terrible accident, we summarize what his manager Sabine Kehm had said - statements from her came mostly in the first few years after the accident, after which it calmed down with statements.

Mind you:

You will NOT find any speculations here, only the official statements of Michael Schumacher's agent Sabine Kehm and other companions

.

December 2017: The manager reveals a "secret wish" that leaves everything in a different light

On the fourth anniversary of the accident, the French sports newspaper

L'Équipe

devoted several pages to the Michael Schumacher case

in December 2017

. "The state of health of the seven-time Formula 1 world champion is the subject of numerous rumors," wrote the paper. It was the cover story, on the cover a portrait of the native Rhinelander with the words: "Schumi, we won't forget you."

The story was split up into various articles. One of them listed the many rumors surrounding Schumacher - there are also very infamous ones. Another was about the children of the Formula 1 legend. But the main article from

L'Équipe should

have been

exciting for many fans

- it was very, very long and, of course, mainly looked at the big picture. But not only. Schumi manager Sabine Kehm also had a say. It was one of the very rare statements (read more below) from Schumacher's confidante. The

L'Équipe

apparently met Kehm in Nyon, Switzerland.

One quote from Kehm in particular made people sit up and take notice.

It has haunted the German media since the newspaper's report.

Anyone who

reads

the original text of

L'Équipe

will, however, find out: She said it back in spring 2016, but it didn't get a lot of attention until December.

"He told me he wanted to disappear," the Schumacher manager is quoted as saying.

"He said to me (sometime before the accident): 'Don't call me to plan things for next year, I'll be gone.'" That was his secret dream.

"That's why I don't let anything out."

These words from Kehm shed a completely different light on the matter: It was Schumacher's wish anyway to take place in public even less than before.

So it is only logical that Kehm let even less announce in the time after the accident.

In addition, it is about Schumacher's privacy.

"Everyone understands the situation," says Kehm.

"It's a question of dignity."

In addition, Kehm gave insights into how Schumacher had kept his distance from the press in the past: "He always set very strict rules. No journalist had his telephone number, and no photographer was allowed to see him."

We have summarized the remarks that Kehm has also made in the years since Schumacher's accident for you.

Michael Schumacher: That's what his manager Sabine Kehm said about his state of health - a selection

Sabine Kehm has been Michael Schumacher's manager for many years.

She is the only one who publishes official statements about his state of health - albeit very cautiously, in recent years the statements have become rarer.

Here is a selection of her most important statements in chronology since the accident.

Sabine Kehm in January / February 2021 on the occasion of the Schumacher film: She emphasized: “The film should portray Michael's incomparable career, but also show the many facets of a complex man: the merciless and daring Formula 1 driver, the ambitious athlete, the Experienced mechanic with a unique technical feel, the reliable team player and a loving family man. "

Sabine Kehm on the editorial network Germany in May 2017: "Michael is a public figure, the public has the right to know that something has happened. We have also made it very clear

that something serious has happened

. Michael, however, very consistently has one drawn a clear line between the public person and the private person. The fans and media have always accepted that. The decision to protect privacy from the public was made in Michael's interest.

It is the family's right to deal with it as it is best for the family

. "

Sabine Kehm in December 2016: "Michael's health is not a public issue, and we will therefore continue not to comment on it," says Kehm: "If only because we have to protect Michael's privacy as much as possible." From a legal point of view

, any statement about the state of health would "permanently reduce the extent of his privacy,"

she added. "We are aware that this is difficult for some people to understand, but we do this in complete accordance with Michael's position and can only thank you for your understanding."

Sabine Kehm in July 2016: "Michael shouldn't go away. But at the

moment the private situation is so difficult that you can't give any insight

. And everyone should understand that."

Sabine Kehm in March 2016 on the

SZ

: The question about Schumacher's recovery path a good two years after his serious skiing accident "

cannot be answered in a few sentences

".

You have to explain a lot because it is "a constant process".

Sabine Kehm in December 2015: "Unfortunately, a current press report forced us to clarify that the claim that Michael could leave is not true.

Sabine Kehm in May 2015: "We are happy to continue to say that he is

making

progress

, and I always say that

considering the severity of his head injuries

."

(...) "But of course it will be a

long struggle

for everyone involved

."

Sabine Kehm in November 2014 on RTL: "You have to give it time. I think you

really just have to be patient

."

Sabine Kehm in June 2014: "

Michael left the CHU Grenoble to

continue his long phase of rehabilitation. He is

no longer in a coma

."

(...) "His family would like to expressly thank all the treating doctors, nurses, nurses and therapists in Grenoble as well as the first aiders at the scene of the accident, who have done an excellent job in these first months."

Sabine Kehm in April 2014: "Michael is making progress on his way. He shows

moments of awareness and awakening

."

(...) "We stand by his side in his long and difficult fight, together with the team from the Grenoble hospital, and we remain confident."

Sabine Kehm in January 2014: "Michael's anesthetics have recently been reduced in order to put him in a

wake-up process

that can take a very long time."

Sabine Kehm shortly after the accident in December 2013: "Michael fell

on his head

on a

private ski trip in the French Alps

. He was taken to the hospital and received professional medical care."

The treating team of doctors added that Schumacher's condition was "extremely serious".

He is

in mortal danger

with "

widespread brain injuries

" and has been put into an

artificial coma

.

Michael Schumacher: That's what friends and companions say about his state of health

Jean Todt in November 2021: Schumacher's longtime confidante Todt spoke up in the

Mail on Sunday

.

After looking at his diary, he revealed to the

Daily Mail's

sister newspaper

that he last visited his former Ferrari protégé on October 18.

But what about Schumi?

“Michael is fighting.

He's fighting and we can only hope that he's better, ”said Todt.

Jean Todt in October 2019:

In an interview with the Italian

La Repubblica

, Michael Schumacher's long-time companion and good friend Jean Todt spoke about the current health of his former protégé.

The former team boss of the Ferrari racing team emphasized that there were no changes worth mentioning.

"There is no news other than the fact that Michael struggles to get better every day," Todt was quoted as saying.

Luca di Montezemolo in February 2016: "Unfortunately, an accidental fall on skis broke him," says di Montezemolo on the podium.

The

news that he has from Schumacher is unfortunately not good

, emphasizes the ex-Ferrari boss.

He did not give any further details.

Ex-manager Willi Weber in December 2015 at tz: "What do we know? Michael is making progress, but the question is: Progress at what level?

Michael got it badly,

I suffered so much from that and still suffer." (...) "I think it's alarming that you don't hear from the family, and I miss the transparency a bit. You have to say what is, and you can't keep it secret forever. Michael was a man who was in public I don't think it's a good thing that they don't finally investigate. It's like a game of hide-and-seek. "

Jean-François Payen in October 2014: "

You are on a time scale that goes from one year to three years,

" said the head of anesthesia and resuscitation at Grenoble University Hospital, to which Schumacher brought after his skiing accident on December 29, 2013 would.
