Ranking Top 14
The half opening of the LOU regaled this Sunday evening.
Author of 27 points including two tries in the 2nd and 34th minute of play, he holds the new record for the most points scored in a match this season.
Very present in the game of Lyonnais, the 23-year-old single-handedly scored the first 24 points of the LOU, before Regard and Chouilloud “steal” the spotlight from him.
His 4 failed transformations can still be a source of bitterness, because they could have cost the Lyonnaise team dearly.
And, while he can be proud of his record of the day, he could have aimed even higher and beat the historical record of Benjamin Urdapilleta, for the most points in a match in the history of the Top 14 (33 points ).
Couilloud, the evening hero
Entering during the match, Couilloud signs a return from heroic injury by offering victory to his in an ultra-contested match.
While his team was behind by 3 points two minutes from the end of this match, the 24-year-old scrum-half who took advantage of a superb job from Tuisova and Regard to snatch a try at the end of the suspense.
Thanks to its life-saving attempt, the LOU won and reached 6th place in the Top 14.
FLOPS
The bad series of Racing 92
This match will probably haunt the night of the Racingmen, who sign a fourth loss in a row in the Top 14 and start the year 2022 on a false note.
While Laurent Travers' men signed a very good performance overall, they saw the game slip away at the very end of the game, on a new incursion at the left end.
After the defeat against Brive, UBB and Castres, Ciel and Bleus face a new disillusion against Lou.
Racing 92 is still stagnating in the soft underbelly of the standings, in 10th place.
Leraître, unhappy
It would be cruel to put the weight of the defeat of Racing on the shoulders of a player, as the performance of the team as a whole has been remarkable.
Unfortunately, two of LOU's decisive tries came after forays into the right lane of young Louis Leraître.
The first, in the 54th, on a loss of ball of the winger of 23 years after a bad pass from Finn Russel.
At the very end of the match, Louis Leraître was at fault on Couilloud's attempt to win.
The young Racingmen can do nothing against the explosiveness of Thibaut Regard who pierces his right lane and gives the ball within 25 meters.
Try and defeat for Laurent Travers' men.
