Covid-19: proportional gauges in sports arenas ... if the situation improves

2022-01-04T18:07:10.311Z

The government says it is ready to study the measure, but on a case-by-case basis and only on the assumption of an improvement in the evolution of the ep

For now, it's no.

The government rebutted this Monday evening, by a vote of its amendment in the National Assembly, the possibility of setting up gauges proportional to the size of the sports arenas.

The idea, adopted by the Law Commission and carried in particular by several members of the majority, was quickly buried by the Minister of Health Olivier Véran, who saw in it the risk of "a gas factory" to enforce the measure.

Since Monday, January 3, and at least for the next three weeks, an open-air stadium and a closed enclosure can accommodate a maximum of 5,000 and 2,000 people respectively.

But there is little hope.

The government amendment mentions the possibility of taking into account "the health situation" and "the characteristics of establishments".

Do not penalize small rooms

A position taken by the Ministry of Sports, contacted by Le Parisien-Today in France, this Tuesday.

"Thanks to a positive change in the health situation and the adoption of the new provisions provided for in the bill under consideration, the rules relating to these large gauges may be required to change," explains the ministry.

We will work on this bearing in mind that the application of strictly proportional gauges could lead to penalizing small equipment.

Hence the idea of taking into account the characteristics of the equipment as a whole: indoor or outdoor rooms, size of the equipment and possibly their local configuration.

"

Clearly, this opens the door for certain speakers in this country to be able to accommodate more than 2,000 or 5,000 people.

The Omicron wave

For the moment, the outlines of this possibility are still unclear: would it be up to the prefects of the departments concerned to decide locally on a possible increase in this gauge, or a decree would set the eligible speakers and at what level of public surplus?

"The ministry consults on the subject (

the proportional gauge in general

)", underlines for the time the text.

But before considering seeing more than 5,000 people in a stadium in France, the Covid-19 epidemic, the scale of which explodes thanks to the Omicron variant, will have to lose in intensity.

This Tuesday, Olivier Véran announced that nearly 300,000 contaminations had been recorded in the last 24 hours in France.
