Both EA Schongau and ERV Schweinfurt only had a few players available.

The hosts got along much better with it.

The big topic was an actor who was not on the ice.

Schongau - The new year began at EA Schongau as the old one had ended: with a sovereign home success. Due to the 5: 1 (3: 0, 0: 0, 2: 1) victory against ERV Schweinfurt, the “Mammoths” in the Bayern League can hardly be taken away from the top eight. "We took advantage of the moment, after all, Schweinfurt came without foreigners," said EAS coach Rainer Höfler after successfully making amends for the 5-6 first leg defeat at ERV.

But not only the Schweinfurters were severely weakened: The injured Leonhard Zink and the suspended striker Jason Lavallée were missing from Schongau.

"Hats off to the boys.

We've only been playing with 13 outfield players for weeks, but the team has grown really close, ”said Höfler, who had little to complain about when his men performed against the eleventh place in the table.

"We solved a lot defensively and played very cleverly again."

Criticism of harsh penalty for top scorer Lavallee

The coach expressed less satisfaction at the press conference - the first in over a month - about the six game suspension Lavallée received after his freak last week in the home win against Kempten. "That is excessive," said the angry coach of the "Mammoths". The Schongau top scorer (25 goals and 14 assists in 17 games) is now forced to watch until the start of the championship round. "We clearly condemn his behavior," added EAS team manager Martin Resch. The Canadian had shown the referee the middle finger and then received a game penalty.

Despite the failures, the "Mammoths" dominated the action for a long time in the first third.

The home side's defensive orientation did not allow the Schweinfurters to develop, and despite some changes in the ranks they kept setting accents.

Matthias Müller used a remarkable preparatory work by Roman Tomanek for the early leadership (4th).

With a double strike by Kevin Steiner (16th) and Florian Höfler (20th), the Schongauers extended their lead to 3: 0 until the first third break.

Funding license player injured his shoulder

In the second round, the EAS had to go with one less player, as license player Nicolas Fahr had sustained a shoulder injury during a fair check of the opponent. Despite this weakening, the home side remained the game-determining team. Only it didn't work out as well as in the first third with the exploitation of chances. The "Mammoths" appeared again and again dangerously in front of the Schweinfurt box, but they did not want to succeed in any further hits. And the Schweinfurters? They were rarely seen in the attack third. Even in the majority, the ERV did not shoot the less busy EAS goalkeeper Daniel Blankenburg. Only in the final phase of the middle section, when the Schongauer switched to energy-saving mode, did the guests from Lower Franconia become more active. When Kevin Heckenberger hit the bar, Blankenburg was lucky (35th). A little later, he quickly parried a deflected shot from Jonas Manger (37th).

In the final section, the home side gave more gas again, which should pay off promptly. After a remarkable solo, Tomanek scored the 4-0 (42nd) with his tenth goal of the season. Then the series with Simon Maucher, Müller and Höfler played the Schweinfurt dizzy, before the latter completed the attack with the 5-0 (53rd). When the show ran in the final minutes, the "Mammoths" left a few opportunities unused. Instead, Kevin Marquardt scored the honorary goal from Schweinfurt (58th). The record-breaking long time of the Schongauer without conceding a goal came to an end after exactly 154 minutes.
