Innsbruck - The Four Hills Tournament * enters the hot phase with the third competition in Innsbruck.

After two competitions in Germany, the ski jumpers are now traveling to neighboring Austria.

The DSV eagles Markus Eisenbichler and Karl Geiger want to conquer the Bergiselschanze in Tyrol.

Both celebrated huge successes in Innsbruck, but recently gambled away the tour victory twice.

Also this time a lot will be decided on the third of the four hills.

After the first jumps on the tricky Bergisel, Markus Eisenbichler felt like joking. Would he check the weather report before the third station of the Four Hills Tournament on Tuesday? "What for? I can't change it anyway. Should I then write a text message to Petrus and say: 'You speci, can you make a little more sunshine?' Unfortunately, that's not possible, "said Eisenbichler after eighth in the qualification and laughed. The fourth in the overall ranking has the necessary looseness for a ski jumping miracle in Innsbruck.

The Bergiselschanze is probably the most extraordinary location on the tour.

The craziest things often happened on the wind-prone facility, and dreams of victory ended with falls or because of strongly changing conditions.

From the ski jump on the mountain above the city in Tyrol, jumpers have an impressive view of Innsbruck and the Nordkette.

The luck factor with the conditions often plays a role.

"I like it, I like going to Innsbruck," said Eisenbichler: "It's a nice stadium, a nice hill, I'm looking forward to it."

The Bavarian was world champion three years ago in Innsbruck ahead of Karl Geiger, and shortly afterwards the two high-flyers also won World Cup gold with the team.

A setback like in the past two years, when Eisenbichler and Geiger had to bury their touring dream after weak jumps on the "mountain of fate", should no longer occur.

The German ski jumpers took care of this in the summer with extra units in Innsbruck.

"This year we have specialized more on the Bergisel because it has always been our Achilles' heel in recent years," said national coach Stefan Horngacher.

"We tried to internalize the rhythm of the hill", added Eisenbichler: "I can actually do the hill very well."

Eisenbichler is around twelve meters behind the superior Ryoyu Kobayashi in the overall standings at halftime.

Geiger has to jump out almost 18 meters in sixth place.

"We won't throw the gun in the grain and say it all sucks," stressed Horngacher: "It's still very, very good."

Not as good as Kobayashi's, though.

The Japanese reaches for the second Grand Slam after 2018/19, his lead over the Norwegian Marius Lindvik: the equivalent of a little more than seven meters.

Kobayashi could not be beaten in the qualification in Innsbruck either.

Eisenbichler, who unofficially surpassed the hill record (138.0 m) with a jump to 139.0 m in the first training session, did not get past eighth place in the qualification.

"It was acceptable, I am satisfied," said "Eisei", the self-confidence was there.

He narrowly missed victory in Garmisch, will it work on the third attempt now?
