Adam Smith: "Sure a lot of players connect to my words" Israel today

2022-01-05T10:55:14.300Z

Adam Smith, Hapoel Holon's new acquisition, became famous thanks to his songs about the difficulties of foreign basketball players in Europe: "Through music things go better" • Tonight awaits him in Shikatash in the play-in: "The atmosphere here can help us win titles"

About two weeks ago, Adam Smith signed for Hapoel Holon in place of Stephen Gray in order to bring more creativity and personal ability to the back line, but in the meantime he has not yet acclimatized and has not yet been able to express his abilities.

Tonight against Besiktas at the opening of the Champions League play-in series he will have a good opportunity to get into things in the most important game there is.

"Holon is a very good place, it takes time to get used to, but it's good for me here," Smith told Israel Today in the first interview since the signing.

"The club here is professional and you are treated well, the weather is amazing, everything is fine so far."

Brought you to upgrade the back line, what do you bring to the team?

"I like to score and throw. I have versatility because I can create for myself and others. We have a lot of great players who do a lot of things, there are scenes, there are rebounds. I do what I know and I hope I will be an asset to the team."

In what position do you prefer to play, 1 or 2?

"Both 1 and 2, depending on what the team needs. I like playing with Joe Ragland because he is a coordinator, but also knows how to score and throw. I work hard on my ability and my suitability for the team. I do what the team needs at the moment."

A quick check on your Wikipedia page shows that in 2016 you played in 11 different teams.

Is there a particular reason why you switch so many groups?

"Look, sometimes there are good situations and sometimes less. I had a year for example that I was the outstanding player in the season and a year later in the same team I was less suited. I played in France, Turkey, Italy, Italy and now Israel, and I got to experience different basketball styles. It's amazing and I love it. "I moved because I was good and upgraded to a bigger team and sometimes it was just right for me to move. A lot of times when a player goes through a lot of teams then they say maybe he's one who's having problems, with me it's probably not right. I'm not one who makes trouble."

You have never won a title in your career.

Maybe this season you will have the opportunity to make a personal history with Holon.

"It will be amazing. The atmosphere here alone can help us win the championship. To win something requires a lot of team investment and that is what Holon knows, the fans and the team want it and compete for titles and this competition itself is an amazing experience. I wish we made the step everyone dreams of."

29-year-old Smith (1.85m) was born in the small town of Jonesboro, Georgia.

His father played football in colleges and did not pursue a professional career, as did his brother and two sisters who also played sports at a young age.

Adam is the only one who has become a professional athlete.

Aside from sports, Smith is gifted with musical talent and in 2019 released an album.

The most famous song is performed featuring other basketball players like Zack Lydie and Eric Green, and talks about the difficulties of being a foreign player.

"I'm from Atlanta and there's a huge hip-hop scene there. I grew up in it, I really like music and I like being in the studio. My parents heard a lot of music styles and it's a way of life for me," the actor says.

"Music and art is a matter of self-expression. Honestly, I enjoy the process. The process of making music is healthy and it cools me down."

Why was it important for you to share with everyone the difficulties you are going through?

“I have a lot of friends who play outside of the US, and that has pros and cons.

I'm sure a lot of people connect to what I said and it shows them that a lot go through what they feel.

"Through music, things go well."

Introduce us into the world of an actor who plays far from home.

"Every experience is different. There are a lot of players who come from the US and face difficulties and do not understand what is happening around them.

There are clubs in small towns, there are those who do not pay, there are those who are good and there are those who are less.

There are amazing places and people and there are other places.

I look at it as a great thing for people to have experiences and play basketball. "

What's the craziest experience you've had?

"When I was in Poland last season we had crazy trips to Russia on VTB because of the corona we would ride buses for hours and then halfway, when it was terribly cold outside with ice and snow you had to get off the bus, walk to cross the border and get on another bus. It's It was a crazy thing to do. "

Adam Smith is also the name of the famous British philosopher who invented the metaphor "The Disappearing Hand".

Smith says that wherever he goes he immediately hears these two words.

"Too many times I've heard it in my life," he laughs.

"Everywhere I go there is talk of the 'disappearing hand', everywhere. At first it was weird, but I've gotten used to it. I've done some research on him and I know he was a very smart guy, so at least that's it."

Smith started the current season with Marquezpandi from the Turkish league and has already played this season against Besiktas, the purple rival tonight.

"I have already talked to the team and told them a few things I remember about them, both defensively and offensively. This game is very important for us because a club like Holon wants to get to the next stage."

What do you think about what was in the game between Drushpaka and Cluj?

"It was very strange. Right, you think so too? Drushpaka has a great team and they already led by 18 points at home in the fourth quarter. Losing a game like that is very strange for me, not something that happens every day."
