The first game of the League Cup semi-final between Arsenal and Liverpool scheduled for tomorrow (Thursday) has been postponed following an official request from the Mighty Reds due to a severe outbreak of the Omicron strain among management and professional staff.
The EFL has been in talks with the club for the past 48 hours trying to figure out if the game could take place, but significant developments have led the club to report a growing number of Corona cases that have not allowed them to form a squad for the game against the Gunners.
Having now examined the circumstances, the league accepted Liverpool's request after stating that rejection is the only option as the club are trying to reduce the additional risk of contagion among the team.
As a result of the postponement, the first of two games will take place at Anfield on January 13 and the rematch will take place in the Emirates on January 20.
