+++ UPDATE +++

Update from January 5th, 10:22 am:

After the gusts of wind from Innsbruck and a turbulent day, Germany's ski jumping hope Markus Eisenbichler was quick to joke again. “I had my pants full in the wind, it is wiser that way. Now I have to go home again and get new underwear for the next competitions in Bischofshofen, ”joked the 30-year-old Bavarian after the third Four Hills Tournament at Bergisel was canceled and relocated to Bischofshofen. The third competition will take place there on Wednesday (4.30 p.m.), before the grand and traditional final follows on Thursday (5.30 p.m.).

The decision to refuse Innsbruck was unanimously approved by the jumpers and those responsible. “It would have gotten too dark at some point,” commented Eisenbichler on the Bergisel facility with the still missing floodlights. In the past, the Germans had often lost the tour in Innsbruck. That can no longer happen this time, but the gap to the leader Ryoyu Kobayashi from Japan is already large after the two stops in Germany.

Update from January 4th, 4.10 p.m.:

After the weather-related cancellation of the third jump of the 70th Four Hills Tournament in Innsbruck, the jury of the World Federation FIS has set the further schedule.

On Wednesday the competition in Bischofshofen should be rescheduled at 4.30 p.m., before that a trial run (11.30 a.m.) and a qualification (1 p.m.) should take place on the Paul-Ausserleitner-Schanze.

As in 2008, two competitions are on the program in Bischofshofen.

As planned, the tour finale should take place on Thursday (5.30 p.m. / ARD and Eurosport), with a qualification right before that (2.30 p.m.).

Update from January 4th, 3:02 p.m.:

Now it's official: The third jumping of the Four Hills Tournament in Innsbruck has been canceled. Due to the prevailing competition conditions with a strong foehn storm in Tyrol, a competition is impossible. The jumping should be made up for tomorrow, Wednesday in Bischofshofen, where two competitions will then take place. That was also the case in 2008. This turns the Four Hills Tournament into a "Three Hills Tournament".

"Innsbruck is the classic foehn capital", said national trainer Stefan Horngacher, who "didn't have a good feeling" given the gusts of over 80 km / h on the local mountain of "Windsbruck".

Because the milled inrun track gave way in the Tyrolean capital when the temperature was significantly higher, the rejection was inevitable - at exactly 3 p.m. Sandro Pertile, race director of the FIS World Federation, blew everything off.

Four Hills Tournament in the live ticker: jumping in Innsbruck canceled

"We would have liked to jump, but the safety of the athletes has priority," said the Italian, who had initially postponed the start time from 1.30pm four times, on ZDF.

Because the Bergisel is the only touring hill without floodlights, it was impossible to postpone it any further.

It was only for the sixth time since 1953 that a touring competition was postponed and / or relocated, and not a single one has yet been canceled.

The organizers, however, still have a cushion to carry out the tour with four competitions this time as well: two additional World Cups are planned for Saturday and Sunday in Bischofshofen, which could be "rededicated".

Update from January 4th, 2:57 p.m.:

There is still no certainty whether the jumping can take place or has to be canceled.

However, every minute it becomes less likely that the eagles will still be let off the hill today.

We will keep you up to date with all the news.

Four Hills Tournament in the live ticker: jumping in Innsbruck shortly before cancellation

Update from January 4th, 2:38 p.m.:

In a few minutes a decision about jumping in Innsbruck will be made.

If a start at 3 p.m. is not possible due to the strong gusts of wind at Bergiselschanze, the competition will have to be canceled.

Then the third competition would probably be made up for tomorrow, Wednesday in Bischofshofen, as FIS race director Sandro Pertile said on ZDF.

The anxious wait goes on.

Update from January 4th, 2:17 p.m.:

The start time for the third jumping of the Four Hills Tournament in Innsbruck will be postponed again.

3 p.m. should now be the last chance to hold the competition after all.

After that, due to the lack of floodlights at Bergiselschanze and other possible interruptions, a staging is hardly imaginable.

Update from January 4th, 1:57 p.m.:

It is getting scarcer!

The jumping has just been postponed by another 20 minutes to 2.30 p.m.

The ski jumpers have to get off the take-off at 3 p.m. at the latest, as a competition after 4 p.m. is no longer possible without floodlights.

A rejection is becoming more and more likely.

Four Hills Tournament in the live ticker: jumping in Innsbruck threatens cancellation - start time postponed again

Update from January 4th, 1.40 p.m.:

Now jumping should start at 2.10 p.m.

Previously, the start time was moved from 1.30 p.m. to 1.50 p.m.

There are strong gusts of wind here at Bergiselschanze.

Moderator Norbert König and expert Toni Innauer almost fly the notes off the desk.

Update from January 4th, 1.30 p.m.:

If the jumping cannot start by 3 p.m., it will be canceled.

Then there would be no passage at all in Innsbruck at this Four Hills Tournament.

The jumping could be made up on Wednesday in Bischofshofen.

As in 2008, two competitions would then be held there.

Four Hills Tournament in the live ticker: jumping in Innsbruck postponed

Update from January 4th, 1:25 pm:

Now FIS race director Sandro Pertile comments on jumping: “I have just received the information from the jury that we have to postpone. The new start time for the competition will be 1:50 p.m. We have winds of up to eight meters per second, it is very unstable. We have to be careful for the athletes. ”Unfortunately, there is no floodlight at Bergiselschanze, the goal is to carry out at least one round. “We have a plan B,” said Pertile on ZDF. The last possible start time is 3 p.m. A windbreak was even put up.

Update from January 4th, 1 p.m.:

Due to strong winds at Bergiselschanze in Innsbruck, the trial run before the third competition of the Four Hills Tournament was canceled at short notice.

The organizers announced this on Tuesday lunchtime.

The rehearsal was actually scheduled for 12 noon and had initially been postponed.

However, the external conditions did not allow it to be carried out later either.

The competition is scheduled for 1.30 p.m.

The ski jump in Austria is known for its susceptibility to wind.

The jumping is now even threatened with cancellation.

Four Hills Tournament in the live ticker: Eisenbichler scandal

Update from January 4th, 12.15 p.m .:

Markus Eisenbichler was only 0.2 points missing from the winner Ryoyu Kobayashi in the New Year's competition in Garmisch. In retrospect, that annoyed the Norwegian team, the Scandinavians sensed a scandal. The DSV-Adler owes its good placement to the referees and was preferred by them, the Norwegians criticize. Eisenbichler had problems with his first jump in the air and wobbled on landing, but still got top marks - the German referee even gave it an 18.5. For the Norwegian sports director Clas Brede Brathen a clear advantage.

After jumping he got a message from a Norwegian referee who described Eisenbichler's scores as a "scandal", Brathen told the Norwegian newspaper

Dagbladet

.

"We were 0.2 points away from choosing the wrong winner," the Norwegian rumbled against the rating.

Four Hills Tournament in live ticker: Eisenbichler scandal?

Norwegians pissed off

He feared that this judge's verdict could ultimately make the difference in the overall victory, explained Brathen: “Let's say he beats Lindvik or Kobayashi by a tenth of a margin from Eisenbichler.

Then the judges decided the tour with their assessment. "Brathen also referred to the bad rating of his protégé Marius Lindvik in Oberstdorf:" Lindvik was too far down when landing and got 15.5 points.

Another jumper who has problems gets 18.5. "

Brathen got approval from the Norwegian ski jumper Maren Lundby.

“I was shocked and wondered if we'd seen the same jump.

It is very suspicious when such a rating comes from a referee from your own country, ”explained Lundby

Preliminary report

: Innsbruck - The Four Hills Tournament * enters the hot phase with the third competition in Innsbruck.

After two competitions in Germany, the ski jumpers are now traveling to neighboring Austria.

The DSV eagles Markus Eisenbichler and Karl Geiger want to conquer the Bergiselschanze in Tyrol.

Both celebrated huge successes in Innsbruck, but recently gambled away the tour victory twice.

Also this time a lot will be decided on the third of the four hills.

Four Hills Tournament in the live ticker: DSV eagles want to conquer “Schicksalsberg” in Innsbruck

After the first jumps on the tricky Bergisel, Markus Eisenbichler felt like joking. Would he check the weather report before the third station of the Four Hills Tournament on Tuesday? "What for? I can't change it anyway. Should I then write a text message to Petrus and say: 'You speci, can you make a little more sunshine?' Unfortunately, that's not possible, "said Eisenbichler after eighth in the qualification and laughed. The fourth in the overall ranking has the necessary looseness for a ski jumping miracle in Innsbruck.

The Bergiselschanze is probably the most extraordinary location on the tour.

The craziest things often happened on the wind-prone facility, and dreams of victory ended with falls or because of strongly changing conditions.

From the ski jump on the mountain above the city in Tyrol, the jumpers have an impressive view of Innsbruck and the Nordkette.

The luck factor with the conditions often plays a role.

Four Hills Tournament in the live ticker: DSV-Adler with special training in Innsbruck

"I like it, I like going to Innsbruck," said Eisenbichler: "It's a nice stadium, a nice hill, I'm looking forward to it."

The Bavarian was world champion three years ago in Innsbruck ahead of Karl Geiger, and shortly afterwards the two high-flyers also won World Cup gold with the team.

A setback like in the past two years, when Eisenbichler and Geiger had to bury their touring dream after weak jumps on the "mountain of fate", should no longer occur.

The German ski jumpers took care of this in the summer with extra units in Innsbruck.

"This year we have specialized more on the Bergisel because it has always been our Achilles' heel in recent years," said national coach Stefan Horngacher.

"We tried to internalize the rhythm of the hill", added Eisenbichler: "I can actually do the hill very well."

Four Hills Tournament in the live ticker: DSV eagles lurk for blunders

Eisenbichler is around twelve meters behind the superior Ryoyu Kobayashi in the overall standings at halftime.

Geiger had to jump out almost 18 meters in sixth place.

"We won't throw the gun in the grain and say it all sucks," stressed Horngacher: "It's still very, very good."

Not as good as Kobayashi's, though.

The Japanese reaches for the second Grand Slam after 2018/19, his lead over the Norwegian Marius Lindvik: the equivalent of a little more than seven meters.

Kobayashi could not be beaten in the qualification in Innsbruck either.

Eisenbichler, who unofficially surpassed the hill record (138.0 m) with a jump to 139.0 m in the first training session, did not get past eighth place in the qualification.

"It was acceptable, I am satisfied," said "Eisei", the self-confidence was there.

He narrowly missed victory in Garmisch, will it work on the third attempt now?
