The Peißenberg "Miners" got it in the matter of "Corona": Six cases force the Bavarian league team to take a break from training and further game cancellations.

Peißenberg - "Corona catches the CSU", "Training kick-off at FC Bayern under the sign of Corona cases": The headlines of the past few days show that the Peißenberg "Miners" are currently in good company when it comes to the pandemic situation. However, the ice hockey Bayern league team would have liked to have done without being named in the same breath as the German record champions and the ruling party in the Free State. In view of the rampant number of positive cases among the "miners", however, the parallelism with the FCB and the CSU cannot be dismissed out of hand.

The Peißenberg ice hockey team has now recorded six proven corona cases.

It is still unclear whether the Omikron variant is involved.

"It can take up to seven days for the information to arrive," reports the noticeably frustrated coach Christian Kratzmeir.

Due to the accumulation of positive tests, those responsible for the "Miners" had no choice but to cancel the next games.

The home game against ESC Kempten planned for Wednesday evening has been canceled, as has the guest appearance on Friday, January 7th, at EHC Waldkraiburg.

Whether the Peißenbergers will be able to play at home against EHC Königsbrunn on Tuesday, January 11th, is in the stars.

Home game failures "a financial disaster"

"For the club, the home game failures at the best ice hockey time are a financial catastrophe," says Kratzmeir, who currently prescribed a quasi-lockdown for his team. That means: no training, and the non-infected should avoid contact as far as possible. “I'm not affected myself, but I'll stay at home for the time being,” reported the “Miners” coach. He hopes to start training again next weekend. “Then the seven days will be over with the first victims. Then it should be clear whether it was Omikron, ”says Kratzmeir. His men received a training plan for the time without ice training in order to keep themselves individually fit. "But then we have to make sure that we get back into the rhythm after the break," continues Kratzmeir.

What is certain, however, is that the table will be created according to the quotient rule after the main round has ended.

"We just completed the required 75 percent of the games," says Kratzmeir after 22 of 28 games (78.6 percent).

With a quotient of 2.0, the Peissenbergers are currently in third place in this ranking.

“That should actually be enough for eighth place”, Kratzmeir is confident that the “Miners” will be in the championship round.

Bayernliga table is created according to the quotient rule

“The team performed well despite the adversity,” is the positive interim result from Kratzmeir.

"Sure, it's not satisfactory if you can't play all the games, but I think we're in the sport where we belong in terms of performance," said Kratzmeir.

“We have to confirm that in the championship round,” the “Miners” coach makes clear.

By then, he also hopes to have completely overcome the aftermath of the Corona break and that one or the other injured player - such as Tobias Estermaier and Martin Andrä - will return.

He tries to get a good side out of the currently unpleasant situation: "There could have been a worse time for the corona outbreak, namely at the beginning of the championship round."
