Kieran Trifaire is set to join Newcastle United in the coming days after the Magpies reached an agreement with Atletico Madrid on a transfer fee of £ 12 million with bonuses.
The England defender's right-back summed up the personal terms in the English team after talks between his representatives and the Newcastle management.
Trifaire will become Newcastle's first signing since the club's takeover by a Saudi-backed investment fund last October.
Negotiations for the 31-year-old have been going on since December, when Atletico agreed to sell him when it became clear that Trifaire wanted to leave Spain and return to England.
The former Tottenham defender played under Newcastle manager Eddie Howe at Burnley after developing as a youth player at Manchester City.
Trifaire made 67 appearances in two and a half years at Atletico and won the Spanish Championship last season, earning him a place on the England squad for the Euros held this summer.
Newcastle are hoping to add at least 3 more signings in January in an attempt to avoid relegation.
