The Tennis Association chose to hold the Davis meeting of the Israeli national team against South Africa, in about two months, at the "Toto Hall of the Campus" in Ashdod.

For the first time, Ashdod will host a meeting of the team's Davis, and it will take place in a hall containing about 2,200 seats, while after adapting to tennis, it will be able to receive about 1,600 fans on each of the days of the games.

The playoff meeting will take place on Friday and Saturday (March 4 and 5) when the winning team will fight for promotion to the top house and the loser will go down to house 2. This is the first Davis meeting held in Israel after four and a half years.

The Mayor of Ashdod, Dr. Yehiel Lasri, and the Director General of the Municipal Sports Authority, Yoram Asraf, mobilized and responded to the Tennis Association's requests and made the facility, including the annex rooms and offices, available to the association for about ten days.

Maccabi Ashdod's men's and women's basketball games have been moved to other halls and in addition the lighting in the hall will be upgraded to comply with the strict ITF regulations.

Apart from Ashdod, a number of halls were examined in various cities in the country, but it was decided to choose the "Toto Hall of the Campus".

Chairman of the Tennis Association, Avi Peretz: "We are happy and excited to come to Ashdod for the Davis meeting.

We are confident that the crowd will enjoy a high level of tennis and trust the team players and coaches who will fight as always for the flag.

As part of our agenda in the Tennis Association, we take care to bring tennis to all over Israel.

Ashdod is a city of sports, there are two tennis clubs with hundreds of players, and in addition it intends to establish one of the most advanced tennis facilities in Israel within about two years.

This is an opportunity to promote the industry in one of the major cities in Israel and we believe that our team will receive a homely and sympathetic boost in this important meeting.

"I would like to thank the Mayor of Ashdod, Dr. Yechiel Lasri and Mr. Yoram Asraf, for the welcome and the strong desire to host the meeting with them. Thank you to the other cities for the desire to host the meeting, which indicates that the tennis industry is significant and important."

The most prominent players in the South Africans are Lloyd Harris, ranked 31st in the world, and Kevin Anderson, ranked 80th in the world, but has not played in recent years in the Davis Cup.

Other players are Montsey Cololwam (785 in the world), Rowan Roulopsa (909 in the world) and Raven Klassen ranked 26th in the world for doubles.

The last meeting between the two teams was in 2018 in South Africa and ended in a 2: 3 victory for the Israeli team.

The last home meeting that Israel hosted was in 2017 against Romania and it ended in a 0: 5 victory.
