The train to the championship round has left for the Erding Gladiators.

Schweinfurt / Erding - Coach Thomas Vogl's team lost an exciting match at ERSC Amberg 4: 5 (0: 1, 3: 0, 1: 3; 0: 1) after extra time on Wednesday evening.

The second leg against the Wild Lions will take place tonight.

Sebastian Busch, Daniel Krzizok, the sick newcomer Gabriel Gawron and all funding license players were missing.

The Czech David Hrazdira made his debut and stormed alongside Florian Zimmermann and Erik Modlmayr.

The Wild Lions, whipped forward by 500 fans, were immediately in attack mode and came in the 7th minute to 1-0 through an oblique shot by Felix Köbele.

The gladiators then accepted the fight, and an open exchange of blows developed with opportunities on both sides.

Maxi Knallinger had the biggest for Erding, but failed to goalkeeper Timon Bätge (10th).

At the end of the third, Erdinger were 3: 5 undernumbered for 43 seconds, but they survived this effortlessly, not least thanks to their strong goalkeeper Christoph Schedlbauer.

In the second section, usually the weakest third of Erdinger, the gladiators were really up to operating temperature. The Vogl troop was definitely on the defensive, played forward quickly and with concentration and was consequent in the end. And within six minutes, the Gladiators shot out a 3-1 lead. Philipp Michl with a shot into the far corner (24th), Marco Babic in the second margin (26th) and Zimmermann (30th), after a great pass from Modlmayr, were successful.

During the second third break, the 20 or so Erdinger fans who had traveled with them had high hopes, because the gladiators' performance in the second third was well worth seeing. But then what the Vogl team actually wanted to avoid happened: a quick goal. Just 64 seconds were played when Michael Kirchberger's shot by Schedlbauer slipped through to 2: 3. Now the momentum was back on the side of the Wild Lions, who ran wildly over the Erdinger Tor. But Zimmermann almost marked the 4: 2, but Bätge parried his shot brilliantly (47th).

Then it got dramatic: The gladiators survived a 3: 5 deficit for almost one and a half minutes, but then it was Köbele who in the 55th minute - with the help of the inner post - managed to equalize 3: 3 against the guests with the indicated penalty.

Erding was now battered.

The Ambergers stayed tuned and pushed for the decision.

This seemed to have fallen when Kirchberger sank the puck to make it 4: 3 for Amberg 68 seconds before the end.

Erdings coach took his goalkeeper off the ice, and exactly 5.3 seconds before the final siren Zimmermann was successful out of the crowd to 4: 4.

The extension lasted only 17 seconds, then the outstanding Köbele completed a break to 5: 4 for the Ambergers.

The cheers at the Wild Lions were of course great, because they have now pushed the door wide open to the championship round.

Gladiators tonight against Amberg again

"Of course the disappointment is huge", admits Erdings coach Thomas Vogl after the 4-5 defeat after extra time in Amberg (see report).

“But we go further and want to show the league what kind of team we really are.” And this opportunity comes up very quickly, because exactly 48 hours after the catch-up game in Amberg, the second leg in Erding will start this evening (8pm) the program.

Most recently, his team lost twice, against Peißenberg and Amberg after extra time.

"If you were in a normal situation and were at the front of the table, you would see these two games as positive, but now just negative," the coach analyzes the current situation of the gladiators.

"But that's just how it is when you're in the hole."

For him the direction of the march is clear today: “We want to win.” And the Erdinger trainer announces a “hot dance” for the Wild Lions from Amberg.

Sebastian Busch is there again, so that he only has to do without Daniel Krzizok at the moment - and the sponsorship license players, "because they are urgently needed in Deggendorf because they have so many failures".

Vogl is still hoping for a conciliatory end to the round of points and promises: “We want to show our fans that we don't belong when we're standing.
