Borussia Mönchengladbach won 2: 1 (2: 1) at the start of the second half of the season at Bayern Munich, which was severely weakened.

Julian Nagelsmann's team, where only players from the second team and amateurs sat on the bench, fought for a long time against the deficit, but played too awkwardly at the front.

Gladbach is the first Bundesliga team to win four times in the Allianz Arena.

Bayern sports director Hasan Salihamidžić had thought out loud in advance about canceling the game.

According to the DFL statutes, however, fewer than 15 licensed players should have been available for this - including amateurs eligible to play.

Bayern coach Julian Nagelsmann had to do without nine players who tested positive, including Manuel Neuer, Leroy Sané and Alphonso Davies.

Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting and Bouna Sarr also attended the Africa Cup.

Six players from the second team as well as the two 16-year-old Arijon Ibrahimovic and Paul Wanner sat on the bench for the record champions, at least Joshua Kimmich, who had recovered from corona infection, was fit again and helped out as a right-back.

Bavaria starts well - and is rapidly reducing

In the early stages, Gladbach started, after the first half of the first half disappointing 14th, erratic. After a pass from Marcel Sabitzer, which was deflected into the run by Robert Lewandowski, the Pole had the first chance from 14 meters (14th). The rushing Borussia goalkeeper Yann Sommer was able to parry the low shot. Just four minutes later, Sommer had to get behind him: After a pass from Kimmich, who interpreted his role on the right side very aggressively, Lewandowski hit the right corner from 13 meters in the right corner (18th).

Gladbach still did not get into the game, but surprisingly managed to equalize: Stefan Lainer's cross from the right could not take Breel Embolo properly, but Kimmich's attempt at clearing landed at Neuhaus, who hit a volley from seven meters (27th).

Now the game tipped over because Mönchengladbach also took his second chance: After a Luca Netz corner, it was Lainer who headed the ball into the goal.

As with the first hit, new substitute Sven Ulreich was on the ball, but could not prevent the hit.

Even the youngsters can't turn the game around

Gladbach now had more chances, Neuhaus had the biggest (44th), who with a little luck prevailed on the left and shot Ulreich freely in front of the goal. The situation was whistled, however, because Neuhaus had previously been on the ball with his hand. Shortly afterwards, Emobolo was suddenly free in front of Bayern's goal (45th), but failed because of the great reaction from Ulreich, who jerked his arm up at the last second. In return, Lewandowski hit the post from an acute angle and Ginter cleared the margin from Thomas Müller shortly before the line.

Without a change it went into the second half.

Bayern started powerfully like in the first half, but failed again and again due to summer, such as the direct corner kick from Kimmich (53rd) or the one-two from Müller and Musiala, whose shot from 14 meters deflected Sommer over the crossbar (56th).

Nagelsmann took the risk late and changed two youngsters, Paul Wanner and Lucas Copado, for the final phase (75th), but didn't turn the game around.
