Borussia Dortmund turns 0-2 in Frankfurt: Finally good posture grades

2022-01-08T22:15:21.199Z

Borussia Dortmund? Simply not a team that can prevail against resistance. That is a popular cliché. In Frankfurt, Marco Rose finally saw the "attitude" he wanted his team to have.

The mentality answer:

Borussia Dortmund has the image of a team that does not show any “mentality” in the decisive moments. There is a lack of "attitude", criticized Dortmund's licensed player boss Sebastian Kehl before kick-off: "Sometimes the last will was missing," which is why their own weakness away from home was caused by their own weakness. So it made sense to write off BVB with a score of 0: 2 after 70 minutes in Frankfurt, especially since Eintracht had won six of their last seven league games. But Dortmund didn't give up, played forward and scored three times before stoppage time broke. The result of a calm, objective half-time analysis, was the opinion of BVB coach Marco Rose, who also said: "I call for sustainability when it comes to attitude". Because a topic that has accompanied a team for years does not go away with an away win.

The result:

The 3: 2 (0: 2) at Eintracht Frankfurt not only allows Dortmund to consolidate second place in the table. In order to recognize FC Bayern at the top of the table, binoculars are no longer needed - but still very good eyesight with six points behind. Click here for the match report for the BVB catch-up.

By Corona's grace:

The operational capability of a Bundesliga player is decided these days primarily at the Covid test station. Sometimes she changes her mind there: Frankfurt's Jesper Lindstrøm had a positive result back on Thursday, but was there after several negative tests. Teammate Djibril Sow was absent because of an "ambiguous" result, Danny da Costa because of a positive test. Yes, no, maybe - the Omikron wave will make it difficult for clubs to prepare for a game without accidents for a while.

Damaged Glasner bones:

Speaking of accident-free: An e-scooter mishap on New Year's Day caused Oliver Glasner to fracture the cheekbones, and the Eintracht coach's facial injuries were still visible at the start of the

second half of

the season. In the press conference before the game, the Eintracht coach had already successfully laughed away his black eye and only demonstrated concern that someone might be scared.

The first half:

The first 45 minutes were framed by two great parades of the Frankfurt goalkeeper: At the beginning Kevin Trapp directed a hard shot by Thomas Meunier spectacularly and finally around the outside post (2nd minute), in stoppage time the number one was Eintracht with a header from Mats Hummels was on hand (and was a little lucky that Donyell Malen put the margin on the post). In between, it was above all the Frankfurters who convinced: With many good chances, clever movements without a ball and modern football as if from a single source. In addition to Rafael Borré, who scored a double after a free kick and a bit of chaos in the BVB penalty area (15./24.), Evan N'Dicka, who failed at the post (29th), and the extremely active Filip Kostić, who the 3-0 narrowly missed (45th),which team had earned the break tour.

In big footsteps:

Borré deserved an extra praise: His predecessors in the uniform of Eintracht had left the Colombian in great footsteps. Whether it's Sebastien Haller, who is now shooting through the goal nets of the Champions League in Amsterdam, Real-Export Luka Jović or 28-goal man André Silva: In recent years some big names have snapped in the Frankfurt city forest. Borré, more of a supple, cooperative striker than a colossus in the center of the attack, had his starting difficulties - well-coordinated depth runs, iniesta-like croqueta dribbling in the opponent's penalty area and, last but not least, the scorer points six and seven in the last five games indicate that Borré is in Frankfurt has arrived.

The second half:

Lindstrøm's tunnel against Emre Can and the subsequent big chance (47th) made BVB fear that it could get even worse. But then a dangerous mixture of caution and tiredness returned at Eintracht: An inattention on the part of Martin Hinteregger ensured that Dortmund were able to send the substitute Thorgan Hazard steeply in the lead with just a few passes (71st), followed by the Belgian’s goal Freestanding Jude Bellingham's header (86th) and Mahmoud Dahoud's shot into black and yellow luck from just beyond the penalty area (89th). BVB hadn't done anything crazy, they just persevered and turned the game around.

Well hidden:

That pleased Rose, but the BVB coach was missing something in front of empty ranks to make the most of the ecstasy.

"It would have been even more emotional with fans," said Rose.

"Without fans, everything is missing in this sport." In fact, the game in Frankfurt was not a complete ghost game.

Sure, the BVB fans were missing, but 250 Frankfurt fans had been admitted - but they sat in the boxes instead of in the stands, which in fairness was not conducive to the emotionality.
