Djokovic claims: I got permission to enter Australia | Israel today

The appeal filed by the world's top-ranked tennis player, who has not been vaccinated against Corona, told authorities on the continent that he was infected with the virus last month.

Novak Djokovic's storm continues:

In an appeal filed by the Serbian tennis player in an Australian court, where he has been held since Wednesday because he intended to enter the country without being vaccinated against Corona, he claims to have a document from the Australian Immigration Department authorizing him to enter the Australian Championships .

According to his lawyers, he holds a valid visa and a medical exemption from the tournament organizers, after he contracted the virus last month.

The Serb presented a document stating that he was found positive for Corona on December 16, so he received written permission to take off for the country after recovering.

There is a problem with Djokovic's claim, as the deadline for submitting a waiver request from the tournament organizing committee ended on December 10, six days before the date he claims to have received the positive response to the virus test.

The debate over the future of the world-ranked tennis player, who has been detained at Melbourne Airport for hours without his personal mobile phone in his possession and when he is closely guarded by two security personnel, is expected to continue until at least Monday, when it will be decided whether he is deported.

Until then, Djokovic will remain in solitary confinement in a hotel in the city and will not be deported back to Serbia.

It was only on Tuesday that it was announced that Djokovic had been granted an exceptional exemption to enter the competition even though he had not been vaccinated against Corona, and it seemed that the saga in his case was coming to an end - but his delay left the options open.

Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison was unmoved by the pressure from the tennis player's family (his mother Dijana said: "He is in a small immigration hotel, if it is a hotel at all, with insects. Everything is dirty and the food there is terrible") and the media noise around him, he clarified: "No one is above the rules. Our border police have a very important part to play in the low death rate from Corona in the state of Corona."
