But I've achieved my minimum goal. ”By that he means the German championships that will take place in Ruhpolding on the last weekend in January. And not again in the Lower Bavarian Regen, where the high school teacher hadn't figured out any chances from the start.

Spring temperatures prevailed there. “At 14 or 15 degrees, the tracks just get too fast, and we classics simply don't stand a chance.” Elsenberger is one of the so-called planlayers who go straight to the goal with a stick. "Wabbler", on the other hand, is the name of those stick shooters who curve the stick into the target, which is much easier on fast ice, as the former world champion explains. “Your stick just won't stop. Then you pull on a stricter pane, which works for one or two thrusts - and then it goes one or two meters too far again, ”he explains the problem, which was not only he had. “There were seven wobblers in the top ten. They also made the first three places among themselves. "

He himself ran the risk of missing the final of the twelve best for a long time. With his experience, however, he fought his way into the competition and climbed from eleven in the preliminary round to ninth with 617 points. Of the 96 attacks, only three were really bad, he sums up. The chances for Ruhpolding? "This is a cold stadium, so it will be easier for me," says Elsenberger. It will still be difficult to get into the top five. Before that, however, the Bundesliga is on the agenda this weekend. Elsenberger wants to qualify for the German team championships with the EC Sassbach. They will also take place in Ruhpolding at the end of January. However, his team must first land on one of the first six places among 28 teams (2 preliminary round groups, then a double elimination round).And once again the competition rises in the rain, but Elsenberger is optimistic.
