A tragic accident in the US state of Connecticut rocked the US ice hockey community.
A tenth grader died in a high school game at St. Luke's School in New Canaan at the Brunswick School in Greenwich.
The boy fell on the ice during the game, another player could not brake and cut his neck with his skates.
The seriously injured student was taken to Greenwich Hospital and pronounced dead.
The world's premier ice hockey league, the NHL, mourned the tragic death of the teenager, “an early lost member of the hockey family.
Our prayers and condolences go to his family, St. Luke's teammates, and his many friends. "
St. Luke's Headmaster Mark Davis also mourned.
“Both St. Luke's School and Brunswick School are in shock.” They are working to “support our students and families.
St. Luke's only focus right now is tending to our devastated community. "
The case is reminiscent of another tragic accident in ice hockey: In December last year, an 18-year-old young player from the Löwen Frankfurt fell during a game against a gang and sustained severe head injuries.
He died in the hospital.
A minute's silence was observed at the DEL games over Christmas.
