1. FC Köln has climbed to sixth place in the table.
Coach Steffen Baumgart's club won 3-1 (2-0) at Hertha BSC Berlin and is now only two points behind a Champions League place.
Local rivals Leverkusen are only one place away.
The first half had a lot of idle time, but also some great chances on both sides.
The Frenchman awarded Myziane Maolida twice for Hertha.
First he shot just next to the goal (5th minute), then failed on another opportunity to Cologne goalkeeper Marvin Schwänke (28th)
The guests did better.
After Marc Uth also shot past the goal from a good position, it was Anthony Modeste who was able to head in after Uth's cross (29th).
Ondrej Duda increased with a long-range shot, the ball had not been cleared properly by the Berliners (32nd).
Schwolow provides a free kick in the penalty area
After the break, Hertha got a little stronger.
Peter Pekarik failed from a tight angle (53rd), but shortly afterwards Vladimir Darida was successful with a direct free kick (57th).
Not a dream goal, the ball sailed past many players and was then suddenly in.
It got strange in the 65th minute.
With an unsuccessful back pass from Niklas Stark, Schwolow had to prevent a goal with a jump jump.
But of course that was a return pass.
The Hertha keeper then parried the subsequent indirect free kick from Uth from a few meters (68th).
The final score - and the decision - was made by Jan Thielmann, who ran up to Schwolow alone, rounded him - and pushed in to make it 3-1.
It is the third win in a row for Cologne.
