After Carlos Sainz during the 3rd stage, Mattias Ekström offered Audi another success on Monday on the Dakar 2022. At the end of the 385 kilometers of special between Al Dawadimi and Wadi Ad Dawasir, the Swede won in 3:43 '21 to sign his first victory in the event, just in front of another racing car with the rings, that of Stéphane Peterhansel (+ 0'49).
3rd at just over three minutes (3'08) despite a puncture and the loss of a spare wheel, Sébastien Loeb (Prodrive) deprived the German brand of a hat-trick (Sainz + 3'11) and took seven minutes and a second on Nasser al-Attiyah (Toyota).
The Qatari, who also had a puncture and plagued by all-wheel drive problems, limited the damage by cutting the line 10'09 after the winner of the day.
In the general classification, the three-time winner of the event (2011, 2015, 2019) has 37 minutes and 58 seconds ahead of the Alsatian four days from the finish in Jeddah.
