Maccabi Tel Aviv announced today (Monday) the signing of Kyrie Thomas on a contract until the end of the current season with an option for another season.
The American Guard (25, 1.91m), was selected in the 2018 draft by Philadelphia and recently played for Bilbao from the Spanish league.
"We want to congratulate Kyrie Thomas on joining Maccabi Tel Aviv," coach Yannis Sapropoulos told the club's official website.
"We brought him in because we believe he can help us. He is a player whose abilities will provide us with more quality options to continue the struggles before us."
Thomas was born and raised in Omaha, Nebraska.
He played at Creighton College from his hometown, was twice named Defender of the Year in the Big East and in his third and final season where he averaged 15.1 points (41.1% from three), 4.4 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 1.7 steals per game.
In the summer of 2018 he was selected by Philadelphia in 38th place in the NBA Draft and transferred to Detroit in a trade.
He later played for both Atlanta, the Denver G-League and San Antonio, and Houston.
In total he made 42 appearances in the best league in the world.
Last November, the guard was signed by Bilbao as a replacement for the injured Andrew Goodlock and already in his first appearance in the Spanish league he starred against Basconia with 23 points (52.3% from the field) and 3 steals.
In his next game he managed to play 8 minutes before injuring his right ankle.
