Roni Deion (70), a Jerusalem journalist and historian who has covered the Jerusalem sports arena for over 40 years, has died after a long battle with cancer.
Deion is considered by many in the capital to be a walking Jerusalem encyclopedia.
Even before the city streets knew who Uri Melmillian was, Deon connected his soul with Betar Jerusalem - the example of the many years of friendship with former president Rivlin from his time as chairman of the club and with other Betar legends.
The club's chairman, Eli Ohana, praised him: "Roni was one of the pillars of the Jerusalem press and always made sure to ask interest and cover the club consistently and devoutly.
What characterized Roni was the way he wrote, which made him one who changed the map of the Jerusalem media.
"Unfortunately, the damn disease overwhelmed him, and the Betar Jerusalem family shares in the family's deep sorrow."
