He was world and European champion only a few months ago, now he's dead: Christian Ghilli died at the age of 19 after a terrible accident.
Pisa - shock news from Italy: Cristian Ghilli is dead. The junior world champion in clay pigeon shooting apparently accidentally shot himself.
Italian media first reported the incredible tragedy that apparently occurred on January 6th in Tuscany.
What happened?
Ghilli had set out on a hunting trip that day, friends had accompanied him to a wooded area in the province of Pisa.
There, near Montecatini val di Cecina, the horrific accident happened, according to media reports: the 19-year-old apparently wanted to pick up fresh cartridges from the ground.
As he bent down, he apparently accidentally fired a shot that hit him in the hand and abdomen.

The Italian's companions recognized the seriousness of the situation immediately and called for help immediately.
Paramedics finally took Ghilli to the hospital, where he underwent emergency surgery.
The doctors could no longer help the young man: he died of the bleeding during the operation.
The news shakes the Italian marksmen to the core: The national federation wrote in a Facebook post among other things: “We remember a talent who was torn from life far too early, with respect, silence and compassion in the face of a tragedy, everyone dismayed.

Ghilli had already had a lot of success in his young career.
It wasn't until October 2021 that the skeet shooter became team and mixed world champion in Peru in the juniors, and he finished third in the individual.
In May 2021, he won gold in individual, team and mixed team competitions at the European Junior Championships in Croatia.
