She is the German hope for a medal for the Olympics.

Katharina Althaus wants to fly far - but one month before take-off she let it fly.

Oberstdorf - It's a sport that those in charge at the Olympics hope for a lot, even if the competition is fierce.

Whether for women or men - many medals are possible in ski jumping.

Fortunately, the women are now also at the Olympics, because one big hope is called Katharina Althaus.

Olympia 2022: Katharina Althaus wants to show everything in ski jumping

The winter sportsman, who was born in Oberstdorf, won a silver medal on the normal hill in Pyeongchang in 2018. The 25-year-old has also finished second in the overall World Cup twice. And one month before the Olympics (as of January 12th) it is again the second best of the overall World Cup.

The games in Beijing (from February 4th to 20th) will probably take place, even if the Corona variant Omikron has also arrived there. Althaus has now got rid of ballast, namely her Christmas tree, which she throws from the balcony in her Oberstdorf apartment. She uses the hashtag "Knut", which is supposed to be reminiscent of the Swedish tradition.

Olympia 2022: Old house throws tree out of the window - barefoot

In Sweden, the traditional end of Christmas is celebrated on the twentieth day after Christmas. Families dance one last time around the decorated tree, children eat delicacies. The tree is decorated and literally “thrown out of the house”. Firing the tree out of the window - similar to how Althaus does it - was once exaggerated in Ikea advertising.

Althaus didn't wait quite 20 days before throwing her tree from the balcony.

Above all, fans noticed one thing while standing on the tiles in freezing temperatures: she was barefoot.

The ski jumper went outside without socks or shoes.

“You have to stay healthy,” writes one fan. Another says: “I'm always barefoot too”.

In one comment it simply says: "The tiles would be too cold for me to be barefoot".

As long as Althaus stays ice cold in the first individual competition on February 5th, everything will be okay.
