Mali's goal was scored by Ibrahima Kony's penalty kick, three minutes after the start of the second half.
The Tunisian team missed a golden opportunity to equalize in the 77th minute when Wahbi Khazri missed a penalty kick that was saved by a Malian goalkeeper.
Tunisia plays in Group F along with Mali, Mauritania and Gambia.
Cameroon is currently hosting the 33rd edition of the African Nations Cup, with the participation of 24 teams.
