At an online meeting of the Bavarian amateur ice hockey clubs on Monday, the mode for the intermediate round and playoffs was adjusted.

- So the joint promotion and relegation round was tipped in the regional league and replaced by an intermediate round within the respective regional group.
"Due to the corona-related extension of the preliminary round, we had to become leaner in the intermediate round," said BEV chairman Frank Butz.

Now the first five teams in each group will complete a promotion round (each against each other in the first and second leg). The clubs start from scratch, the results of the preliminary round are not taken. The same applies to places six to ten, which play a relegation round. The first games will take place on Friday, January 28th. If this intermediate round is played through until the beginning of March without pandemic-related game cancellations, there is also the possibility of promotion and relegation playoffs with semi-finals and finals, according to Butz. All of this, however, with the proviso that the infection process allows regular play until the end of the season. Otherwise, shortening it, applying the coefficient rule or even suspending promotion and relegation would have to be considered.
Regional league teams from the district benefit from innovations
For the regional league clubs from the Freising district, the innovations are consistently positive.
Since the fifth in the ranking plays in the promotion round, this increases the EV Moosburg's chances of participating significantly.
And the Freising Black Bears should not be unhappy that the results from the preliminary round do not play a role in the relegation round.
