The main round of the volleyball Bundesliga is canceled. The WWK Volleys Herrsching would have decided differently - and start the second round with three points.

Herrsching - Those responsible for the Volleyball Bundesliga (VBL) have reacted to the ongoing corona chaos in the league.

On Tuesday evening, after an intensive and hour-long exchange with representatives of the nine Bundesliga clubs via video conference, the VBL management decided to cancel the main round with immediate effect in order to ensure the regular start of the second round.

According to the press release, the officials saw “no realistic possibility” of completing the nine catch-up games before the scheduled start of the second round on January 22nd.

"In addition, the games that have now been eliminated would hardly have had any impact on the group assignment for the intermediate round."

The final table was adjusted based on a quotient rule.

Only the Powervolleys Düren and the United Volleys Frankfurt swap places in the table, so that the Frankfurters start the second round in second place.

Fritz Frömming, Managing Director of WWK Volleys Herrsching, was not happy with the decision: “I would have preferred to finish the main round and then play the play-offs.” But that left the 58-year-old alone at the video conference .

The Herrschinger now start the second round in seventh place.

With a point win in the last but ultimately canceled main round game against Frankfurt, the Ammerseer could have improved to sixth place and thus started the second round with more bonus points.

This option was taken away from them by the VBL decision.

Volleyball Bundesliga: The starting position before the second round

This results in the following ranking list before the start of the intermediate round of group B, which is played in the mode everyone-against-everyone with back and forth leg: The SVG Lüneburg starts with nine points, the Netzhoppers Königs Wusterhausen get six and the WWK volleys three.

The Helios Grizzlys Giesen as eighth start with zero points.

The Herrschinger team starts on Sunday, January 23rd, with a guest performance in Königs Wusterhausen.

The home games will continue to take place without spectators.

At least the games can be played in Herrsching, but the play-off games will definitely take place in the Audi Dome.
