Gladiators have the last word

The bottom of the table only admits defeat in extra time.

Ulm/Erding – The Erding Gladiators had to stay in detention at VfE Ulm/Neu-Ulm on Friday evening.

In the end they were happy about a 4: 3 (0: 1, 2: 1, 1: 1; 1: 0) after extra time at the last.

As announced, Erding's coach Thomas Vogl had some juniors with him and brought together exactly three blocks - licensed players were not available. New signing Martin Podesva made his debut for Ulm – and it couldn't have gone better. After Basti Cramer and Philipp Michl weren't able to take their chances, it was Podesva on the other side who made it 1-0 for the Devils after just under two minutes. The Gladiators were twice outnumbered and unlucky when a Roni Rukajärvi shot, deflected by Michl, went just wide. The guests then had a really good chance when outnumbered when Sebastian Busch played a great pass to Michl, who went up and away alone, but failed at goalkeeper Benedikt Sommer.

The Devils also got off to a better start in the second third, and Jonas Mikulic increased the lead to 2-0 after just 95 seconds when Erding was penalized. Now it was threatening for the Erdinger, because after a bench penalty they were outnumbered. But during a break, Roni Rukjärvi shot the puck through the legs of keeper Sommer with his backhand (24th). Then there was another penalty against the guests, and just when the Gladiators were complete again, Mark Waldhausen completed a remarkable solo to make it 2-2 (32nd). Waldhausen scored again with the half-time siren, main referee Manuel Vorgeitz immediately decided on a goal, but he took it back after protests in Ulm.

In the final third, Marius Dörner made it 3-2 for Ulm (48'), which David Hrazdira equalized (54').

Now it was getting hot.

Two seconds before the end even fists flew.

But in the following extra time, Waldhausen stayed cool and scored to make it 4:3 (63rd).
