Setback for the German handball players at the European Championship: Julius Kühn is out of the two preliminary round games against Austria on Sunday and two days later against Poland (both 6 p.m.). This was announced by the German national handball team. The backroom professional tested positive for the corona virus. Kühn then went into isolation.
All other delegation members who tested negative again on Saturday have also gone to their rooms.
The German handball players had previously won their opening game 33:29 against Belarus on Friday.
Kühn was instrumental in the success with six goals.
Kühn has already received a booster vaccination and is symptom-free.
The Ct value determined in the positive test result indicates a low level of infectivity.
According to EHF rules, Kühn will be out for at least five days.
Further tests are scheduled for the German handball players for tomorrow, Sunday, before the Austria game.
At the European Championships in Hungary and Slovakia, a number of teams are already affected by corona cases.
Kühn's positive test is now the first corona case for the German selection.
National coach Alfred Gíslason was skeptical on Saturday morning given the hardly any corona regulations in Hungary.
“I'm excited to see how things continue in this tournament.
When you see that there are 20,000 at a game in Budapest and no one is wearing a mask, you have to see how that goes.”
However, the German team will play their preliminary round matches in Slovakia.
Gislason was satisfied with the conditions in the German quarters.
