After a long break, the table tennis women of the TTC Birkland are back in the Oberliga.

Due to several catch-up games, the team is facing a tight January program.

Birkland – The table tennis women of the TTC Birkland get going again: On Sunday, January 16th, two games are scheduled for the team in the Bavarian Oberliga in their home hall.

In the morning it's against TSV Schwabhausen IV (10.30 a.m.), in the afternoon the Post SV Augsburg (3 p.m.) are guests in the "House of Clubs".

Both teams are ahead of the TTC in the table.

The rapid increase in the number of corona incidences in late autumn prompted the Bavarian Table Tennis Association to interrupt the game operations in the leagues at the time.

In the lower divisions, the "lockdown" lasts until the end of February.

Those leagues that are in the area of the German Table Tennis Association (DTTB) are not affected.

This includes the Oberliga Bayern, in which the women of the TTC Birkland play.

However, they were "locked out" for a long time at the end of November because the critical 1000 mark had been exceeded in the Weilheim-Schongau district and the halls were therefore closed.

TTC Birkland shines with a strong home record

The hall in Birkland was closed until the beginning of January, reported TTC player Lena Berchtold. The training deficit "is certainly a big disadvantage". Most of the opposing teams were able to prepare well for the second half of the season "and certainly did so," said Berchtold. However, the TTC women were not idle either. They used the past weekend for intensive team training, "although you notice the three or four weeks of forced breaks". Compared to the other teams, the Birkländer have played the fewest games. Seven of the nine players in the TTC squad played in the six games.

The balance is balanced overall: three wins face three defeats.

The start of the season was optimal with two home wins (8:2 against Thanhhausen II/6:4 against Hofstetten II).

The TTC also won the third game in their own hall, against RV Wombach II (6:4).

On the other hand, things haven't gone according to plan away from home.

In the two top teams, ESV Freimann (4:6) and TSV Bad Rodach (4:6), there were defeats as well as in the guest appearance in the seventh, TSV Lauf (3:7).

Due to various catch-up games, "our appointment calendar in January is correspondingly full," says Berchtold.

There are five games within 13 days.

"Thanks to our tight program we will hopefully get back into the rhythm of the game quickly," is the hope.

Statistics: Birkland's players and their records: Karin Stumpfecker (6 games/5:7), Patricia Weishäupl (4/2:6), Lena Berchtold (5/6:4), Monika Dietrich (2/3:1), Lisa Böhmländer (2/2:2), Julia Holz (3/5:1), Daniela Rinner (2/0:4).
