In a survey by the association, more than 70 percent of the handball clubs in Bavaria voted to continue the season.

Freising

– Those responsible followed this majority and decided that the first match day after the cancellation on the weekend of 28/29.

January 2022 is to take place.

In a circular, the reason given was that almost the same conditions would prevail in all districts, and that the vaccination rate had also increased.

The exceptional regulations for children and young people under the age of 18 – they do not have to show 2G if they are tested at school – played into the association’s hands.

How do the district associations see this decision?

Wait and see whether things really work out at the end of January, is the motto of Simon Klawe, the coach of the Bavarian league handball team at HSG Freising-Neufahrn: "I'm quite skeptical in view of the increasing incidence." However, the association should have made a preliminary decision: "In any case, I think it's positive that it should continue." Above all, the young people should be allowed to practice their favorite sport.

The HSG women are preparing intensively, even if 2G or 2G+ becomes a problem: "We can't compete in full then, and younger players will have to take on more responsibility," emphasizes Klawe: "The anticipation that things can start is still there large."

Winkler: Just a plan

In the opinion of Eching's department head Bastian Winkler, the whole thing is nothing more than planning: "That was the task of the association after 70 to 80 percent of the clubs said they wanted to continue." Winkler sees it critically: "The problem for me personally is that you completely exclude the group of non-vaccinated people.” The association had to take over the political will, which is not fair: “Perhaps there will be a phase where 3G is possible again. The clubs affected should be allowed to catch up on their games.” At least 20 to 30 percent voted against a continuation: “They mustn’t fall down the back.” In Eching there is hardly any problem, for Winkler the most positive message is anyway: “It is the most important thing that the youth can continue to train. Game operations only come second.”

Continuation of the season is important for youth

At SG Moosburg they were definitely in favor of a continuation, says men's coach Otto Holländer: "It's very important for handball in general and especially for young people." He still has a reproach towards BHV.

"When it was still allowed last year, as many games as possible should have been played." However, the Moosburg game plan often included free weekends, so that Holländer has still not made his home debut: "One game in the Albinhalle I haven't been able to do that, although I've been a coach with the Moosburgers for two years easy round, you have to wait and see.
