After a particularly bad sequence of results and failing to live up to expectations, the Spaniard leaves Goodison Park

A sad day to heal Benitez.

The Spanish coach was fired from Everton after six disappointing months in the position at Goodison Park, the club from Liverpool announced today (Sunday).

The Blues announced the end of Benitez's tenure after the 2-1 loss to Norwich on Saturday.

The team has only won a single league game since September 25 - a narrow victory over Arsenal in December.

"Everton Football Club announces the departure of Rafael Benitez as first team coach," Everton said in a statement.

"Benitez, who joined Everton in June 2021, left the club immediately. An update on a permanent replacement will be given later."

Benitez joined Everton in June, replacing Carlo Ancelotti who left after 12 months in the job to return to Real Madrid.

Some Everton fans hung a threatening poster outside the Spanish coach's home in the days leading up to his signing, due to the fact that he had previously coached Liverpool and even won the Champions League with them.

Everton are in 15th place after 19 games this season, just six points off the red line.
