Mess and chaos in the cup derby between Betis and Sevilla.

The match for the round of 16 of the Cup held at the Benito Villamarín was stopped at 1-1 in the 39th minute after Jordán from Sevilla was hit in the head with a plastic stick, apparently from a flag.

It will resume this Sunday at 4:00 p.m. behind closed doors.

he shot came after the tying goal, the work of Fekir, from a direct corner kick. Then there were moments of great tension on the lawn of Benito Villamarín. Jordán got up after the blow, even made some gesture to the stands and then approached the band to speak with his coach, Julen Lopetegui. From that moment he sat on the same band and was treated by the medical services of Sevilla. Jordán was later transferred to a Seville hospital for further tests. The player was diagnosed with a head injury and will remain under observation at home for the next 24 hours.

Nine minutes after the impact, the referee of the match, Ricardo de Burgos Bengoechea, decreed that the two teams go into the changing rooms to wait for a decision and before a possible recovery of the footballer. Jordán left the field of play helped by the medical services and, apparently, dizzy from the impact received. The bar, presumably from a flag, was thrown from the stands where radical fans of the Verdiblanco team usually hang out.

The captains of both teams, Canales and Rakitic, and the presidents, Ángel Haro and José Castro, together with the referee, held a meeting in the locker room tunnel to make a decision and see if the game could be resumed or if it was definitively suspended. In this meeting there were continuous calls to those responsible for the Spanish Federation, many of them in Saudi Arabia on the occasion of the Spanish Super Cup. After the meeting, De Burgos Bengoechea went into the locker room and spoke with his superiors. There he called both captains and also the two coaches, Manuel Pellegrini and Lopetegui. Ultimately, the match was suspended. This was confirmed by the Federation itself in a tweet at 10:50 p.m. (the clash began at 9:30 p.m.).

The meeting will resume this Sunday at 4:00 p.m. behind closed doors.

Sevilla, with 10 casualties for this duel, can change players in the possible resumption of this derby already marked by controversy.

Camarasa, a Betis player, expressed himself on social networks about the controversy.

“The action of someone who does not represent our fans is embarrassing and unjustifiable.

I hope that Joan Jordán is fine, although we have all heard (including the fourth official) how his coach encouraged him to get dizzy and throw himself on the ground.

I'm not saying that Joan is faking it, I'm just repeating what has been heard on the wing," said the Betis player.

His partner Juan Miranda commented: "They knew what they were doing."

After midnight, the minutes of the collegiate De Burgos Bengoecha were made public. “The match has been suspended on 01/15/2022 at 11:46 p.m., motivated by (Incidents of the public): After Real Betis Balompié SAD scored a goal in the 39th minute, a hollow bar of approximately 50 cm of PVC. Said launch was made from the bottom right as we left the locker room, where there were supporters wearing local team shirts, scarves and flags. Said bar hit the head of Sevilla player No. 8 Mr. Joan Jordán Moreno, falling to the field of play, requiring medical assistance. The kick-off of the match was made by Sevilla FC SAD.Real Betis Balompié SAD during the first half defended on the left side as we left the changing rooms. The result at that time was 1-1 and the match should resume with an initial kick-off in favor of Sevilla FC SAD and the additional time that we would add up to that moment was 4 minutes”, De Burgos stated in the minutes.

Betis, for its part, issued a statement offering its opinion on what happened.

“Real Betis Balompié strongly condemns the throwing of an object onto the pitch during the Copa del Rey match.

The Club has immediately collaborated with the National Police to identify the alleged perpetrator of the launch, to whom the entity's Disciplinary Regulations would be applied with the utmost rigor.

Sevilla issued another statement at dawn where they transferred all their love to Jordán and described the violent act committed on their footballer as "unacceptable".

“Sevilla condemns the violent act that Joan Jordán has suffered, an unacceptable act in the world of sport committed by an individual who, of course, does not represent the Real Betis fans or the way of living football in our community. town.

Likewise, the club demands the greatest respect for the figure of Joan Jordán, a professional with integrity and an exemplary person who has suffered an infamous attack”.

In the 2006-07 season and also in a Copa del Rey derby, Sevilla manager Juande Ramos was bottled up in the second half of the match just after a goal by Kanouté.

The coach had to leave the field on a stretcher and the game was suspended.

The remaining minutes were played behind closed doors in Getafe and Sevilla kept the 0-1.
