The day promises to be busy in Cameroon.

Four meetings are on the program for this Sunday at the CAN, with two heavyweights on the lawn.

After a disappointing first game, Algeria will have to catch up against a weaker opponent on paper, while Côte d'Ivoire can get closer to qualifying.

After the incredible end of the game during their clash, Tunisia and Mali respectively challenge Mauritania and Gambia.

We summarize everything in our CAN diary, our daily meeting, until the final on February 6.

What to remember from Saturday

Group D: Nigeria did not flinch against Sudan.

After an inaugural success against Egypt (1-0), the Super Eagles continued this Saturday in Garoua against Sudan (3-1).

In a well-stocked stadium, since located only a few kilometers from the Nigerian border, the greens and whites have never trembled against the Sudanese clearly a tone above.

From the 3rd minute of play, Villarreal player Samuel Chukwueze put the Nigerians on the right track before Taiwo Awoniyi widened the gap just before the break with a goal gag.

From the start of the second period, the Nantes native Moses Simon scored the 3rd Nigerian goal propelling the Super Eagles to an easy success (46th).

Sudan reduced the lead on a penalty in the 70th minute through Walieldin Safour but the score remained unchanged.

With this success, Nigeria has completed its ticket for the round of 16 while Sudan will have one last chance to believe against Egypt on Wednesday.

Group D: Egypt launches its CAN

.

Winner 1-0 of Guinea-Bissau thanks to a goal from Mohamed Salah, Egypt won their first success in this African Cup of Nations after their defeat against Nigeria on the first day (1-0).

The Pharaohs relied on the Liverpool star to unblock the situation in the 69th minute with a magnificent volley from the left.

This 46th goal by Salah in the national team allows Egypt to see qualification again for the round of 16.

Carlos Queiroz's men will face Sudan on the final day.

More critical situation on the other hand for Guinea-Bissau, last of this group D and whose qualification seems to move away since they will play their last pool match against Nigeria.

The program for this Sunday

Group B: Ivory Coast - Sierra Leone (5 p.m. on BeIN Sports 7)

After their success against Equatorial Guinea (0-1), the Elephants want to continue against Sierra Leone.

Especially since a victory would allow the teammates of Max-Alain Gradel, scorer in the first match, to get seriously closer to qualification.

Winner in 2015, Côte d'Ivoire is one of the outsiders of this African Cup.

For its part, Sierra Leone achieved a resounding feat by standing up to Algeria (0-0) when they entered the competition, thanks to a daunting performance from their goalkeeper, Mohamed Kamara.

The Leone Stars can still dream of the round of 16, a stage never before reached for this nation.

Group B: Algeria - Equatorial Guinea (20 hours on BeIN Sports 1)

Hooked by Sierra Leone (0-0), the defending champions must finally launch their competition this Sunday.

To do this, Algeria faces Equatorial Guinea, who showed great things in the game against Côte d'Ivoire, despite the defeat.

"We will try not to miss the opportunities we can create," assured Youcef Atal at a press conference before the match.

The Fennecs will thus be able to count on their star Riyad Mahrez or on other fine names such as Ismaël Bennacer (AC Milan) or Saïd Benrahma (West Ham) to try to get their first success in this CAN and thus assume their status as favourites.

Group F: Gambia - Mali (2 p.m. on BeIN Sports 1)

She is living a daydream.

Qualified for the first time in its history for the final phase of the CAN, Gambia beat Mauritania (1-0).

Affected by cases of Covid-19 like several other African selections, the Scorpions will want to chain a second victory in a row against Mali to hope for qualification in the next round.

For their part, the teammates of Lensois Massadio Haïdara hope to win to get closer to qualification, after their controversial victory against Tunisia (1-0).

Group F: Tunisia - Mauritania (5 p.m. on BeIN Sports 1)

The calm after the storm ?

Following the bad comedy of the referee, Janny Sikazwe, against Mali, who whistled the end of the match too early twice (in the 85th then in the 89th), Wahbi Khazri's teammates must refocus on their football before facing Mauritania.

And as if bad news never comes alone, the Covid-19 does not make it easy for the Eagles of Carthage since six positive cases were identified before this match (Mohamed Drager, Naïm Sliti, Issam Jebali, Oussama Haddadi, Yoann Touzghar and Dylan Bronn).

In this deleterious climate, Tunisia, semi-finalist in 2019, will want to record its first victory in this CAN against the Mauritanians, defeated against Gambia (0-1).

Player to watch: Riyad Mahrez

Preponderant in the success of his nation in 2019, Riyad Mahrez is obviously the expected man of this Sunday.

After a brilliant first half of the season at Manchester City (6 goals, 4 assists in 16 Premier League games), the Algerian wants to guide his nation to a second consecutive CAN title.

Especially since the brilliant left-hander has already displayed his ambitions, before flying to Cameroon.

Good luck for the next matches, Riyadh!

In an interview with his club, the former Leicester player proclaimed his love for his country.

“They love me and I love them.

That's why I give everything I have when I'm in selection.

We won the CAN for the country, for our supporters and for our families.

I'm proud to play for my country,” said the striker.

His adversaries have been warned.
