The best tennis player in the world humbly accepted the decision to deport him from Australia • Promised to cooperate with the authorities regarding his departure • "I will take time to rest and recover, before making further comments on the matter"

Shortly after the federal court's dramatic decision to expel Novak Djokovic from the Australian Championship, the Serb issued a statement today (Sunday) expressing his disappointment.

The world's top tennis player, who will not be able to defend his title and compete in the 21st Grand Slam Cup of his career, said: "I want to make a brief statement, to address the results of today's court hearing.

Djokovic continued: "I am very disappointed with the court ruling to reject my request for judicial review of the Minister's decision to cancel my visa, which means I can not stay in Australia and participate in the Australian Open.

"I respect the court ruling and will cooperate with the relevant authorities regarding my departure from the country. I am not comfortable that the focus of the last few weeks has been on me and I hope we can all now focus on the game and tournament I love."

The disappointed Serb added: "I want to wish the players, tournament officials, staff, volunteers and fans all the best for the tournament. Finally, I would like to thank my family, friends, staff, supporters, fans and fellow Serbs for your continued support. You have all been a great source of strength for me."

Following the decision, Mymir Katzmanovic, a member of the team, who was scheduled to meet tomorrow in the first round on the main field at "Rod Labor", is expected to receive one Lucky Loser - a player who was eliminated in the last round in the qualifiers, who will replace Djokovic.
